The real Bobby Kent was buff, Middle Eastern and Persian, so I don't understand why not put a similar actor to play him?

I see what the OP is saying. Looking at the photos of the real Bobby Kent, he looked worlds different from Nick Stahl. Not that the other actors exactly resembled the real people, but that casting was a particularly huge difference.

He does look Italian form the pictures i've seen, his friend Marty Puccio was definitely Italian as can be seen from his surname.

it's acceptable to cast people little optimistically compared to the real person...this almost always happens, in every True Crime telemovie, or even re-enanctiments in 'Crime Files" series or somehting...the actor/actress is almost always an improvement on actual person..
very rarely do they go the other way.

Yes, Stahl although putting in a good performance, is nothing like him.
they passed on ANY attempt at even a vague physical match for "Kent"...
there was no attempt to portray Kent's ethnocentricities , as an angle..it did not get much attention even in the book, but it got some.
and worst of all, it went not even half-way to portraying Kent's full resume as a general all-round demented abusive sadistic fkd-up fking ahole..
Because Nick Stall is amazing and talented. He did a great job. Not every nuance about a real person is translated into a movie. This is based on a real story - not a documentary.

shareI'm glad they cast Rachel Miner instead of some girl that actually looked like Lisa Connelly (especially given the unnecessary number of graphic sex/nude scenes), but while Nick Stahl is a decent actor, he isn't physically intimidating enough to play a menacing bully. In real life, the late Brad Renfro looks like he could have easily taken him in a fight. They should have cast a guy who looks like a young Vin Diesel as Bobby Kent,
shareAgreed, though Rachel Miner was made up to look like Lisa. I also didn't like how they added a scene where Marty fights back against Bobby's bullying. It's bad enough they cast someone who looked weaker than Renfro--and nothing like Bobby Kent's massive frame--but then adding in a scene where Marty is made to look stronger then he really was, when the whole movie is about him killing someone for being weaker and intimidated? This irked me, even though I love this movie.

I wondered the same thing. I think everyone else looked similar to their real life counterparts or at least looked like they would've had some ties to the real life people. As far as Stahl playing Bobby Kent? Nope. Not a single resemblance. I think it enhanced the story in the sense that they were all physically equal. At the same time, it wasn't accurate and might've been scarier if someone with Kent's size was bullying the rest of the group.
