Someone like McGonagall taking 150 points, really?

She's strict, but fair. I just don't see her of the kind of person who takes 150 points just for 3 kids staying up past curfew. In the book when she catches Draco, she only docks 20 points from him, and as if the 150 points weren't enough, she threatens to take another 50 from Ron trying to access the third floor chamber.

They broke the rules, without rules, there's chaos.

These particular kids have been flaunting the rules since they arrived. She was trying to impress on them and prevent them from being killed.

Yes, McGonagall could be too much at times. She also punished Harry for standing up to Umbridge.
