Kind of expected cheesy but it was actually entertaining and seemed to stick, G-rated version, to the actual story of what happened to these guys and their lives.
I knew Mickey in Los Angeles and, I'm a believer, he is a hoot! Very nice guy to boot. And what a fun singer!
We just caught this on Netflix and were very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the production. Yes there are a ton of "historical" glitches (Mickey & Davey's hair styles are wrong in the beginning, Bob Raffelson, the creator of the Monkees is MIA, etc) there are surprising true events peppered throughout. As a huge Monkees fan I'm really surprised I missed this one when it came out. Now I'm off to rent Head!
shareI like it, too. I'm glad they weren't trying to duplicate The Monkees. The Daydream Believer performance is an example of how they tried to get things close, but intentionally threw in something different. The set in that performance is very similar to the original, but their clothing resembled what the real band wore for other musical numbers on the show (such as Star Collector and Daily Nightly, if I recall correctly).
