Still Lost

When I first played the game in 1999, I though it was a great game but didn't understand the plot. Playing it again 9 years later, I'm still confused as to some of the plot elements. From what i undestand, Balthasar in the future sets in motion events to have Serge created in the past to save Schala. Everything is going as her planned for the first part of his life. When he is bitten by the Panther and goes to Cronopolis he comes into contanct with the Frozen Flame, which was part of Balthasar's plan, but not part of FATE's plan. So FATE has Serge killed years later against the plans of Balthasar so he sends Schala's clone back in time to save Serge from drowning. Thus creating the parallel universes. I think I have all that right, but then I get lost. Can anyone help me>

Balthasar ended up in the place beyond the time where he planned to erase Lavos influence.

All the events in both Trigger & Cross were Balthasar plan to "erase" Lavos influence from the earth. First in Trigger he needed the 3 kids (Lucca, Crono & Marle) to kill Lavos so he would use his backup plan and dragg itself to the past and create the alternate dimmension where the Lizards conquered the Humans and Dinopolis was created.

He also knew that FATE at some point in the timeline will corrupt due Lavos influence that's why he needed Serge.

In one timeline Serge died and in other he lived that was also Balthasar plan.

He needed both dimensions in order to make Serge (The Flame guardian) adquire the two tear fragments that made the Chrono Cross.

He was also trying to save schala from being fully intergrated with lavos first, then erase the time devourer second. but yea the basic plot just as stated by Det_Sipowicz
