the end

can somebody please explain what happened at the end of the film? i just didn't get it at all! who was the girl who hanged herself and what was so important about the year books and the years circled by mrs parks at the beginning? much explanation required!

The girl who hung herself was Kim Jung-sook, the outcast of Jookran High for Girls. She was the character who was supposed to distract you from finding out who the "real" ghost was. As for the yearbook thing, did you notice how in the beginning, Mrs. Park was looking through the 1993 and 1996 yearbooks and came across the pictures? The pictures were exactly the same, just under different names.
The student who died was a senior in 1989, which was the year that she killed herself, her name was Jin-ju. If she came back in 1993, 1996, and now(movie timeline), 1998 then having the same name would give her away, wouldn't it? It could have been just a coincidence that the three girls look the same, but if they had the same name, then the plot would be given away right at the beginning. Jin-ju had been returnig to the school every three years because she would be repeating her senior year.

there's something I don't undetstand about that "coming back every three years" thing. If someone can explain me, that would be great.
If she died in 1989, wouldn't she come back in 1992, 1995 and then (at the movie's date) 1998? I just don't get why she came back in 1993, 1996 and 1998.

Also, how was Jin-Juh's original face? Was it the same as she had whenever she came back? (like Yae-Yih). Because I know there's a scene where they show here face, in the scene when she dies (which was kind of a silly accident, but still pretty tragic), but her face didn't look too similar for me. I guess i didn't recognize her because of the camera angle... otherwise, Ji-Oh wouldn't have recognized her when seeing the sculpture made by Eun-Young?
Thanks in advance!

Because in 1989, Jin-ju was a senior. It would only make sense if she kept coming back as a senior. Also, most high schools in Asian countries, such as Korea, have "senior" high school for only three years; grades 10 through 12.
If we assume that Jin-ju was in grade 12 in 1989; then in 1993, she would repeat her grade 12 year.
We also have to remember that wheras in North America we start school in September, in Asian countries, such as Japan and Korea, school starts in April. Jin-ju would have started grade 12 in April of 1993, 1996, and 1998. The only confusing part would be... the girls are starting their second term of the new school year. Judging from the scenery in the film, one could assume that they are now into September or October.
If that is true, then it would be September of 1998 when the new term starts.

Or my logic could be completely flawed and they just did things this way because, let's face it, it's a movie. Anything can probably happen, right?

Or maybe the just have individual portraits only of seniors. My high school was like that... the sophmores and juniors only had group class pictures.

I liked the movie but i thought some things were kind of stupid too. The old friend (now a teacher) recognized her from the year books photos, so she had always the same face, how on earth would the other teachers just ignore that? Even worse was the fact that she was different from the normal girls and even died there, so everyone would know about her.

Don't dream it: be it!
