Definitive version yet to be filmed?

This version feels like a mess. There are parts that nearly take advantage of what's available but it always seems to come up short. Many of the characters are just awful. Captain Osborn is especially annoying, but he's not alone.

Can this novel be filmed? Is there any actress out there that is willing to see Becky Sharp through to the end? Is there one out there capable of really portraying Becky Sharp?
Becky is not all together a sympathetic character. Actors are not generally willing these days, if they ever have been, to take roles where they are not loved in the end.
You can root for Becky against the oppressiveness of the society she lives in but she clearly goes over board and at times makes you think she might be a sociopath.

There is really a huge opportunity in this role, but I don't know if Hollywood has the guts to make this story into a great film.
Modern versions on film are quite rare. Has Hollywood given up on this story?

Check out the mini series... A much more meaningful version

There are three mini-series of Vanity Fair. The second one with Eve Matheson is closest in spirit to the novel, I think.
