Helenas exquisit portrayal of character

To the persons who believe that Helena Bonham Carter is miscast in this role, I say you have missed the true poignence of the film. Some have claimed that she did not portray the dreamer like qualities of the young silvy and that she is too ragged or striking. But she wasn't really portraying Silvy at all, she was portraying the psyche of a dreamless man who has been living 'dead' to the world beneath a rock for 30 years, slowly confronting his own fall, and remembering his own ability to dream. That is why she played the role in perfect nuance. At the very most, she is his rememberance of the girl through the eyes of a man who refuses to remember, not the girl herself. It is a striking jagged paradox, which is exactly how Helena plays the role. The doctor is a striking man whose lines are few, but whose expressions speak volumes.

Apparently Helena Bonham Carter was one of the first actors on board. She was chosen for her 'pre-raphelite' looks. She worked quite hard to be in the film, and was apparently willing to do the film unpaid.

I think she was an awesome choice.
