Masterpiece. But I could have sworn I saw an alternate ending.

This is one of my favorite films. Guy is one of my favorites. Helena is too. But she is miscast in this. And she doesn't look enough like the little girl version (costume, hair and make up fault?)

In the alternate ending, from what I remember, Guy gets in the boat. When I rented this the first time, as the boat slowly moves down the river, he disappears from the boat, then the boat disappears. In the movie version, only he disappears from the boat and the boat continues, then a fade. Maybe it was just my imagination. But I could have sworn the alternate ending went something like that. I thought this alternate was better. Because then you question whether the whole thing ever happened at all (which would bring the movie full circle to when he opens talking about perception). But when I rented it again a few months later, I couldn't find this alternate ending. Does anyone know what happened?

Maybe the movie got recalled from video and they didn't want to have this alternate ending available. So they took it out. Or maybe I just couldn't remember how to access it on my dvd. Or maybe I imagined it. But I tried ever possible thing on the menu to try to get it. I could have sworn this alternate ending I described was also available.

don't know man, I think you imagined it. I didn't see anything disappear. There were zero extra features on the video I rented (Netflix).

She wasn't miscast in this; Ruby isn't Silvy, therefore she isn't supposed to look anything like Silvy. And I don't recall an alternate ending. I own the DVD and there are no special features. Maybe it was the Region 2 dvd? Or Region 1, I'm not sure where you live. Anyway, just sharing my two cents. :)

Look at the thread that says there are two versions of this film. You aren't crazy!
