The beginning osng is indeed "baba o'reilly" by the who, but it's performed by The London Philharmonic Orchestra.
I'd love to get hold of a copy of this and "the sign" but have no clue as to where to look.

you can search lyrics for it on the internet..that's what I did. Dashboard Confessional Sings a recreation of it called "Ethans Song".
Yeah, that's a cool song. It sounds a lot like "Big Indian" by the Dandy Warhols (13 tales...), but Big Indian is a vocal song as opposed to an instrumental. Perhaps it is an outtake, a rework, or an underlying track of this song.
