Why guys like this movie

I'm a 26 year old straight guy and I just saw this for the first time the other night and thought it was a really good film, and it strayed away from other Romantic comedies as I usually don't like those.

In my opinion this movie reminded me a bit of How I Met Your Mother, where as John would be Ted obviously.

Most guys can connect to that kind of character because we have all been there. For me anyway I want to find that girl that makes me crazy and do insane things to find her. When we see a movie like this it makes us feel like we're not the only ones who think this way. We don't like to admit it but we all want to have that chemistry with a girl like John & Sarah did in this film.

It wasn't your average Rom Com, where they get together and then fight and break up just to get together again. It was different, the whole movie was about them getting together, and doing whatever it took to get to that point.

I do feel the girl's side was a bit unrealistic as 99% of the girls out there wouldn't do this, especially ones that look like Sarah. Now-a-days if a guy would to do this, they would be considered creepy or a stalker, which kind of sucks.

Couldn't havent stated the case for why some men are drawn to this film, skeetch.

As someone stated earlier in a different thread, I think the kind of men who are drawn to this film or films like it are the hopeless romantic variety, the type who would go questing as a knight-errant to win their lady love, move heaven and earth to win the woman.

Jonathan Trager is a modern day Sir Galahad in this film.

As for your point about stalking, I had to literally laugh out loud at that thought. It has never once crossed my mind, in all the times I have seen this film, that in the real world, Jonathan's (and Dean's as well) actions would very likely end in a restraining order. Spot on, sir.

Yes I agree it would only appeal to hopeless romantic's.

I would like to meet a girl and have that instant connection with them, it's really farfetched but this movie at least gives you the sense other people feel the same way.

Meant to say in my previous reply "couldn't have stated the case better". I suppose that's what happens sometimes when your reply on a forum using a keyboard the size of a postage stamp.

It's difficult posting here from a phone!

The idea of meeting someone and immediately knowing he/she is the one is intriguing, of course.

Not very well executed in this movie, IMO. But I'm glad to hear there are straight men who like it.

While there's probably some part of me that agrees with you, this straight guy's primary reasons for loving this movie are:

1. I have the same first name as John Cusack's character.
2. I love John Cusack in a non-romantic way. He's the exact same age as I am, and I've grown up with him. I've seen everything he's ever done, ever since he was awesome in "Class."
3. I love Kate Beckinsale in a very romantic way. Okay, let me be a bit more truthful here and say that I lust after her.

For me, those three reasons are good enough to love a movie.

I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

I can only think of one good reason for guys to like this movie: Kate Beckinsale, before she got vamped up by cosmetic surgery.

What if this is as good as it gets?
