Danny definitely got under Benedict's skin concerning Tess. He was then red flagged by security. Was this planned by the team for some reason? I understand the need for drama and tension, but I'd have to believe Danny would realize confronting Benedict like that would have consequences.
Does it help the heist through redirection or messing with Benedict's head?
It was part of the plot. He needed to be in the room being beaten up by the dude to give him plausible deniability with Benedict. Remember, he paid off the dude to 'beat' him up.

shareIt was part of the plan. Everyone knew it except Linus. Not only did this give him deniability with Benedict, but it was his way to get into the elevator shaft. There wouldn't have been any other way for him to get in. He couldn't have played the NGB agent like Linus did, at least not without Benedict immediately recognizing him.
