Very Strange Soundtrack

Though not great, by any means, this film was rather interesting. I didn't really know much about Linda beforehand, and I feel like I learned a few factual things about her from this film.

To correct another poster (possibly on another thread), the film mentions Linda's vegetarianism at least twice, and in one of her pleas to Paul, she makes a comment about supporting animals' rights. The film cannot explore everything, and truthfully, the title is slightly inappropriate. It really is a love story, but it is Linda and Paul's. The film focusses on them almost equally within the context of their relationship. It really isn't a Linda biopic.

That said, I found the soundtrack very odd. The songs from the era were all okay. It is strange, however, that the music of Wings is almost completely absent. It is similarly strange that songs from the early Beatles' career (certainly pre-Linda) were very prominent. Did anybody hear any music from Sgt. Peppers? In that respect, if you are not old enough to have been there, or don't have the background in Beatles music, you might not recognize that the songs are all pretty anachronistic when paired with the events shown in the film.

Good points.

Maybe the earlier songs were cheaper to use??
Sometimes that has to do with what songs are used in films.

Yes, I had the very same thought. Most such decisions have something to do with economics. I'm not sure how that would apply to this situation in its particulars, but I bet you are right.

A lot of the songs were poor cover versions too.

Its all economics.. the rights to get all of the songs plus the rights to use the original versions would have been extremely expensive..

One of the few original songs used was Georgie Fame's "Yeh, Yeh". The funny thing was that the film makers clearly were not familiar with Georgie Fame as they showed an actor miming to the track and singing in front of a band. In reality Georgie Fame always sang sitting down whilst playing his organ.
