I'd really like to see this, but where has it been distributed?

As the Wikipedia article on the movie which references this site says, (or rather the article at the link!), this movie did not receive distribution in Germany, nor was it (according to the WSWS article) shown there by March 2005, other than at the "Berlinale" film festival.

I would like to see this movie. So far as I know, it has not received nationwide distribution in Britain yet, either. Maybe in London. But I never saw it advertised anywhere, nor anything in film magazines about it. DVD? It's not at amazon.co.uk, under "Edelweiss Pirates", nor, in the German original, at amazon.de.

How can we write reviews of good anti-Nazi historical movies like this if no-one'll distribute them?

Not everyone gets to go to film festivals.

Oh and PS. How come 33 people have reviewed this already and given it an average score of only about 6? I understand it was nominated for a prize at the Montreal Film Festival - did most of you "voters" see it there, or what?? Mm, well if it was nominated for a top prize, I don't see why more of you "clever" voters seem to think so. I honestly don't know what to think, when a movie hasn't even received a proper distribution in the country of its origin (due to political reasons - the recent film about Sophie Scholl did, was very heavily plugged, because it portrayed Christian anti-Nazi resistance, and THAT of course is acceptable; whereas the "Edelweiss Pirates" were in fact an anarchist youth gang (and viewed at the time as "criminals" - they were from working-class backgrounds) and therefore are FAR less acceptable.

I think that most of the nitwits voting on here who gave a movie like that a poor mark, are either German right-wingers/people with political interests who don't want the movie shown, or they're members of English-speaking Aryan hate groups - or they are just that - IDIOTS.

Anyone who can give a movie, say, like Sin City, a rating of 8 or above, and this a 6 - IS THE BIGGEST DONKEY GOD OR GAIA EVER CREATED.

I hope you're all satisfied with yourselves. Esel. Nazischweine.

now, a half year later, here's your first reply to your question, and btw i'm to lazy too read your whole post.

I think there's a rentable version of this movie in dutch video library's.

The DVD is available at amazon.de, but it doesn't seem to have any subtitles(not even German ones).

You can get this highly impressive movie at www.jpc.de, too. It has German, English, French, Italian and Spanish subtitles.

I really don't understand why this movie doesn't get its deserved attention in Germany.

Wow, thanks for that site, vbetz!! This is the edition with subtitles that I'm looking for.

I am baffled as well, as to why even in Germany, the movie is practically unheard of. Maybe it's due to the unknown cast.

I just saw this great movie on DVD. In german with spanish subs.

On why this movie haven't been released in some places. Well my friend you may be right. There are still too many brainwashed and ignorant rednecks who thinks that Nazis were the good guys and the left-wing dissidents who fought against Nazis were the devil incarnated.

I just had this argument with a supposedly US soldier ("Supposedly" because I doubt he really is what he says). BTW the most stupid man u could imagine. This dude dared to say that the 3 millions (or more) vietnameses, laosians and cambodians massacred by US troops are nothing to be ashamed of because they weren't really human beings but only evil commies!

No matters if hundreds of thousands of them were only peasants, women, kids, elder people. It was right to kill all of them. It's incredibly but many morons actually believe that crap!

Probably u will see first a movie depicting the Nazi-Fascists as humanitarian leaders before this movie could see the light on DVD in "certain" places.
