Question on scene

Was the bear actually taking a dump on the toilet or was he just farting, cause wouldnt they have like splashing sound effects to make it more realistic? Just curious

reply

Tank was pretending to fart on the toliet, and then they put the fart noises in later.

This had to be the most bizarre scene to shoot. They had a bear sitting on a toilet, experienceing explosive diarrhea, with Eddie Murphy complaining about the bear's (Archie's) farts.

And there was thought and work put into this one scene. Someone to write this scene, someone to draw this on storyboard, someone to train the bear to sit on a toilet and pretend to fart, shooting Eddie Murphy pretending he is in a bathroom with a gassy bear, shooting Tank the bear sitting on a toilet and to act like he's having the worst case of diarrhea, Steve Zahn (the voice behind Archie) reading from a script saying he's a big brown bear farting in a small bathroom with Eddie Murphy, someone to find and listen to each fart sound effect, and an editor to cut this together.

And in the end it turned out to be, which probably is true but still strange, the most memorable and hilarious part of the whole movie. All the ten-year-old boys came out of the theater telling their parents, while laughing their butts off, "My favorite part of the whole movie was when the bear was farting on the toilet!"

But i think this scene is retarded because of the fact that Eddie told the bear to sit on the toilet, wouldn't you tell the bear to leave? And they should have had the bear grunting cause it seemed fake that he's enjoying it and they should have added more sounds to make it realistic. Well that's just me, anyway its just a movie.

reply

Yeah, I guess you've got a point there. After all, like you said, it is just a movie.

reply

Eddie Murphy stuck in the bathroom with Archie the Bear.

Leave? Where exactly was the bear suppose to go? There was only one door, and John had already tried to leave, only to find one of the men he was meeting with outside it. The window was much too small, and even if it was big enough, the window barely opened when John attempted to open it for ventilation. At least on the toilet contains the mess.

This is where a more family overtone overrides realism. The scene was suppose to be more of a funny scene with light potty humor rather than a realistic gross out scene heavy in potty humor.

I think cause in the scene, John told the bear to immediately sit on the toilet rather than leave. Maybe then, there would've been an easy escape for John and Archie could've done his business in the woods.
