Like a workshop of a film that needs coherence

Just saw this on TV, and it was powerful, yet without narrative coherence. I could see it as something that would be the beginning of a discussion, which is what I'm doing here.

Sarah's character was not consistent with the orthodox culture she was depicted as being from. She would never have allowed herself to have ventured into being so close to Sol, allowing the sexual interlude to have taken place. Her attraction to a black man could have occurred if she had been removed from her setting, lets say at a university, but then Sol would have had different values, and become more a part of the white culture.

We had two individuals who did relate, yet who were very much a part of the groups that were in an incipient state of warfare, and not so incipient at that. Among this Jewish sub culture, a women would not have been as depicted.

I see this as an interesting first draft of a film, the development of characters and social settings. Then it should have been brainstormed, as to what kind of coherent plot with a degree of realism would have held the characters together. This was lacking completely. The ending showing Sarah with a child from the liason with Sol, provided no closure.

It's a shame, since the acting and technical aspects were excellent.

Sol did say when they first met it felt like they knew each other before. I'm not sure if you believe in past lives, but it seems like they had that kind of connection.

I don't know much about the Jewish Culture and the inner workings of it so I will take your word for it, but sometimes relationships transcend those boundaries.
