My thoughts on this movie

As someone new to the imdb message boards, a lifelong horror fan & somebody who one day dreams of making his own horror movie, I decided to share my thoughts on this movie with the world.

After a recent viewing here are some of the observations I made.

I feel that while being an obvious Friday 13th rip off, the story had the potential to make a decent B horror movie, which was sadly spolied, firstly by the whole establishing sequence where within the first 5 minutes we have already seen Trevor Moorhouse thus not allowing the villian of the film to be mysteriously revealed over a period of time as with Micheal Myers for example. From this point he becomes a man in suit & mask with a chainsaw. Also we are given no explanation as to why he seems to be parked in the middle of the woods or where he got he truck from.

Next are the two dimensional charachters. In the first scene we are suddenly introduced to 9 people & not really given a chance to get to know them individually or what they are about & as such feel anything for them. This is not helped i feel by the fact that some of the actors look too old & uncomfortable playing the ages they are which for me spoils the believability.

Then there is the lighting. I feel that the murders create very little suspense and a lot of the scenes are too well lit & staged which again spolis the creepiness of it all. For me darkness is a powerful tool in a horror movie and while used in this one, it is not used to its fullest potential.

Finally there is the obvious Friday 13th rip-offs & lousy plotting, like where Drew conveniently forgets the map in the middle of the woods to set up Julie's meeting with the camps previous owner(Crazy Ralph anyone?) who then tells her that they are all doomed. Hmm? Sounds familiar.

I could probably go on but i wont. Is short its a decent idea handled badly. Those are my thoughts. I'd be interested to hear anyone else's.

Thanks for reading.

I agree with u n most everything u said only thing is other than them being at camp I don't see it being a Friday the 13th rip off remember jason wad a drown victim and mrs vorhees was the original killer she vowed revenge from her son drowning and the counselors not watching him and she vowed to never have the place opened again killing everyone that would try until one of them beheaded her and jason suppsosedly watching the whole thing which lead him to take over etc. The backstories are not the same at all the only similarities I see they are at camp and someone is killing them which "sleepaway camp" has the those similarities too. This movie was good but could have been a lot better. Sometimes the acting is awful but other times its good like u said a lot of things weren't explained that should have beenwould have changed the movie so much

In looking back at my previous posts I have to disagree with my posts when I said It wasn't a friday the 13th rip off it is it's just such a horrible movie that to say it's a friday the 13th ripoff is insulting Friday the 13th. It really could have been so much better the twists at the end was good. With the right cast (this cast was just awful) and changes to the script and the lighting it could have been Awesome. Maybe they will remake it how it should be done. Has anyone seen the 2nd one? Any thoughts on it I heard from a few ppl it was better than the first. I can't find it anywhere I saw this one on Showtime I believe about 2 years ago. But they never show the second one and I can't find it on YouTube either.

Perhaps my Friday the 13th rip off comment was a little blunt. I was merely meaning that the whole premise of camp councillors in terror immediately makes you think of Friday the 13th and also some of the situations/charachters seem to be taken from that movie, although of course were much better done in the 1980 classic.

I have seen the second one and while its definately not the best horror movie ever, its what I would call a really good "B" movie and a 100 times better than the first.

You might be able to pick up the DVD for next to nothing on Amazon.

No one is disagreeing your Friday the 13th comment. We ALL agree, it comes down to...ok you ripped it off, but can you offer something to the audience to keep us awake ? I usually love movies that are rated B or don't get enough recognition. I never rented this from the video store because I saw the cover of the movie, but my friend did rent it. I saw both 1-2 on cable through On Demand. I actually enjoyed them both because I don't put extremely high expectations on any movie, except boring high budget overly rated movies, which make me yawn 100 times before they're half over.

2 questions or concerns that I have. 1. HOWCOME in Friday the 13th movies and this movie, some "old guy" is warning all the young people about the killer coming back, butttttt how did "they" the old person survive so long and not get killed ? LOL

2nd question is, because my friend is stingy and full of it. I ordered this movie for a nostalgia feel and it cost me only a few bucks. I got the 4 movie set with part 1-2, Junior and Deadly Species. NOW my question is, even though Artisan gave up their rights to this movie and other movies. Does anyone know if the picture quality is the same on the Artisan Bloody Murder movie which has only 1 movie on the disc versus the 2 disc 4 movie set ? If anyone knows, please do share your info. That way I can ask my punk friend to loan me his copies of 1-2.

Thank You
