My thoughts on this movie
As someone new to the imdb message boards, a lifelong horror fan & somebody who one day dreams of making his own horror movie, I decided to share my thoughts on this movie with the world.
After a recent viewing here are some of the observations I made.
I feel that while being an obvious Friday 13th rip off, the story had the potential to make a decent B horror movie, which was sadly spolied, firstly by the whole establishing sequence where within the first 5 minutes we have already seen Trevor Moorhouse thus not allowing the villian of the film to be mysteriously revealed over a period of time as with Micheal Myers for example. From this point he becomes a man in suit & mask with a chainsaw. Also we are given no explanation as to why he seems to be parked in the middle of the woods or where he got he truck from.
Next are the two dimensional charachters. In the first scene we are suddenly introduced to 9 people & not really given a chance to get to know them individually or what they are about & as such feel anything for them. This is not helped i feel by the fact that some of the actors look too old & uncomfortable playing the ages they are which for me spoils the believability.
Then there is the lighting. I feel that the murders create very little suspense and a lot of the scenes are too well lit & staged which again spolis the creepiness of it all. For me darkness is a powerful tool in a horror movie and while used in this one, it is not used to its fullest potential.
Finally there is the obvious Friday 13th rip-offs & lousy plotting, like where Drew conveniently forgets the map in the middle of the woods to set up Julie's meeting with the camps previous owner(Crazy Ralph anyone?) who then tells her that they are all doomed. Hmm? Sounds familiar.
I could probably go on but i wont. Is short its a decent idea handled badly. Those are my thoughts. I'd be interested to hear anyone else's.
