did the creators even watch the original, they didnt find Dino till they were grown ups

Fred and Barney also didn't meet Wilma and Betty till they were adults too.

Mr. Slate was also fairly older than Fred and Barney, in fact he was Barney's Uncle if memory serves me right.

Most people don't realize that the waiters thing was itself a retcon.

A first season episode mentions that Fred and Wilma used to date in high school.

Seeing that this was made in the 80's, and the target audience was kids, I just dismissed it as being a traditional Saturday morning cartoon. I even wrote a review on this many years ago, and, watching re-runs on Boomerang Network, I like to pretend that this is an alternate reality, in which Fred, Barney, Wilma, Betty, and even Dino, were all kids instead of adults. In this reality exists Philo, Moonstone, and Rocky. Also, in this reality, Mr. Slate is the same age as everyone else.

One can say the same of A Pup Named Scooby Doo. It takes place in an alternate reality, in which the main characters are kids, and there are characters added on that aren't in the original storyline as well.

Given that for the love of crossovers, that Hanna Barbera shows all take place in the same world, i always reasoned that the world has more than enough time travelers to rule just about any forgetfulness in the writing to just be caused by all the stress and problems those characters caused.

In reality though they are just silly cartoons, sometimes we do over analyze things, but if you really did want an explanation, is anyone really surprised the world where the Great Gazoo, talking humanoid animals and cavemen celebrating christmas has problems keeping a steady timeline? XD
