Tomie and Tsukiko?

What exactly was their relationship?

***SPOILER***

At the end of the film, Tomie tells Tsukiko that they are the same, and they both start laughing (until Tsukiko sets her on fire, at any rate).

***END SPOILER***

Was this explained more fully in the manga - or does anyone have any theories on just what that meant?

How do they go from friends to the same?

Or am I just reading too much into it? lol

Who is your daddy and what does he do?!

ingres,

know that you are not alone. Three people I know who have seen it and several of the external reviewers seem to be pondering the same question.

In fact, that whole twist seems to make absolutely no sense at all in light of the plot.

I would detail the inconsistencies, but I would feel like I would be wasting my time.

I have heard that the other films make no more sense, but at least are more scary.

I found Tomie to be a dissappointment.

reply

I didn't go for that plot twist, either, especially after Tomie spends the time right before that line telling Tsukiko how she hates her because Tsukiko will have a life, a family, grow old and die.

I have no idea what Tomie meant. Maybe they just threw it in to be annoying.

It worked!

The only reason for time is so that everything doesn't happen at once.

reply

Ok people!

Didn't anybody note the mole that has appeared on Tsukiko's face near the end? Tomie did something to her to cause this to happen because even though she was pissed at Tsukiko, she saw her as a friend. So, by doing whatever she did, Tsukiko is like her and now they don't have to be at each other's throats.

It's really not that hard to figure out.

reply

Sorry but the implication was "I'm you", and not "I'm like you". They were hinting that Tsukiko some how had split personalities but that didn't make sense considering the plot points. Its as iff they wern't sure what direction they were going to go with the film so they tried both.

Tomie is like a virus. Anyone she comes into physical contact with either becomes obsessed with her, or becomes an "offshoot" of her.

reply

That's exactly what I was trying to say before.
Thank you jjsmith39.

reply

Thank you, thank you, for pointing that out.

I've not seen the later films, but I wonder... could Tomie be considered a contamination?

reply

She's more of an infection rather than a contamination.

If you watch the flashback Tsukiko has of tomie's murder, she has quite a lot of tomies blood on her, also when she is killed again, tsukiko is caked in tomie blood. Anyone who has come into contact with tomie's blood, or even lipstick she has used (see later movies) can be possessed (if female) or driven insane.
