EXPLOITED GRIEVING FATHER MARK BYERS

So sad to see he had to go through all those false accusations during his grief for his wife and son.

Everyone believes the boys are innocent (even the FBI has said they don't match the profile)--they never even knew the kids and would never have been able to physically carry around unconscious children that size who were bleeding yet get no blood on any of their homes, possessions, or bodies, and not transfer any of them to the boys, all those witnesses retracted their stories of confessions such as the woman who said Echols told her he did it, the guy who said Jason told him he did it, and another woman asked to lie in so many words....and there is no hard evidence such as DNA, the knife (which was thrown in the water before the crime and one of the cops or prosecutors was the only "witness" that caused the diver to look for it, and finally, the confession of Misskelly was severely coached.

This man was suspicious, but his brain tumor may have caused his strange reactions, behavior, appearance... The FBI carefully evaluated him and said he could not have committed the crime. And he in turn decided the 3 boys were likewise innocent and framed. This case illustrates how limited we all are at figuring out who perpetrates crimes when we lack conclusive hard evidence and turn to conclusions based on other behavior, looks, habits, hobbies, beliefs, friends.... If the police and prosecutors don't zealously follow both the letter and spirit of the law, presuming everyone is innocent until proven guilty, investigating all evidence as far as possible, never manufacturing it no matter how emotional the public responds wanting answers, innocent people can be convicted by people thinking they are only doing what is right. And the real criminals are left to walk the streets.

Not every witness has recanted their testimony, so you might want to rethink that statement.

Look up the death of his wife, you may think twice about that aspect of things. And he's since acknowledged that the three convicted - and since paroled - were innocent.

It always makes me wonder during the polygraph when he says "I got a DWI after my wife was murdered" whether that was a slip up or if he meant that the murder of his child led to the premature death of his wife and therefor the same people "murdered" her too?

reply

Freudian slip.

It's easy to say now, with the benefit of hindsight, that he's only a clown who loves the attention but back then it was easy to see why anyone would think he did it.

Speaking of attention-whores, STOP SHOUTING!

Christopher was not Byers's son. It's an offence to describe him as such even if he assumed a parenting role, which I've not seen evidence of from the films.

That's my first thought every time he refers to him as his son. The first movie refers to him as a stepson and the second movie refers to him as an adopted son. How could he adopt the kid after his death?

Is it really that sad that he chose to be a huge part of the films, to the extent that he apparently staged dramatics scenes? The only sad thing about him is the fact that he is completely delusional to what a hayseed freak show he comes off like.

As with everyone else involved, I'm not sure if Byers is innocent or guilty, but I do know that out of everyone involved, Byers and Echols were the ones who loved the attention the most. Those two hammed it up for the cameras more than anyone else.

So sad to see him go through all the false accusations? According to Dawn Moore who was the older sister of Michael Moore, JMB was hardly a sympathetic character. She said that she and her family would be over as guests, and he would just light into the boy. He had a belt nearby in the living room he'd use just to beat that boy. Here is her interview with Bob Ruff:

See if you think he's innocent. Only a bastard would do that to a small boy who was not his own. He claimed to love that boy? Really? You don't beat the crap out of an eight-year-old with a belt and claim to love the boy. The most usual suspects in the case of child murder is the parents unless evidence states otherwise. They didn't investigate Byers and still haven't.
