Look at the facts, not the documentaries

Look at this site: http://www.callahan.8k.com/custom.html

It contains all documents pertinent to this case.

Then make up your mind.

Good point

As much as I love the documentary, it favours the three convicted killers.

"This is a faithful saying...Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief."

reply

Agreed. I like the documentaries too, but they're heavily biased.

While I expect a documentary to have a POV, the Paradise Lost franchise is as far removed from facts as such a film can be. The Callahan's site is an excellent resource to make an independent judgment. I am familiar with a number of people who used that resource and realized the degree to which PLII and the original deceived them.

As the Prosecution has said, they are "Free the WM3 infomercials".

I don't know if it was willful deception though. I suspect much of the information was not available to the public back when the documentary was first shot. I'd be more inclined to think it was a limited POV rather than deceitful one.

reply

Nonsense.

Berlinger and Sinofsky weren't even remotely interested in the Prosecution's case.

I know this for a fact because the film crew left town before Echol's sentencing hearing and Brent Davis offered to sent them the transcripts of that hearing where Echol's mental health history was presented.

Berlinger said it wouldn't be nesessary, but was sent a copy of exhibit 500 none the less.

Not a page of it appeared in the film.

Nor was it even hinted at during the sequel.

It was absolutely deliberate deception.

Berlinger presented Echols as a "persecuted" outcast, and no documented history of violent mental illness was ever going to challenge that.

Before I get into substance, all POV's are deceitful in that they are subjective. Again, I expect such when I watch a documentary, and there really isn't anything wrong with it. Nonetheless, the PL franchise's POV is so over the top it is beyond deceptive. It is deliberately false. I wouldn't want to live in a society that didn't allow outright distortions but they are unhealthy.

All that said, Berlinger and Sinofsky intentionally disregarded and avoided anything that would have caused rational people to see guilt was more probable than not. As mojo pointed out, they even were offered the most damning evidence to use and chose not to do so. My guess is this was more a marketing decision than an artistic one, and in that sense it has paid handsomely. In a societal sense, it has garned three vicious killers unwarranted sympathy and an undeserved shot at a new trial. Money is nice and everything but this cash drips blood.

Can you provide some examples on what the documentary purposefully omits? I just watched the first two documentaries. The first one seems really partial, whereas the second one is obvious they favored the WM3.
I know most of the documents are in the site you listed, but I just don't have the time to the research.

And here it is ladies and gentlemen, the unequivocal proof of why the three PL documentaries proved to be such successes.
