Finally saw this.

As in my recent post on the Rue des Plaisirs page, I finally picked up a region 1 DVD of this and checked it out.

While the cinematography appears to have been very well done, the DVD I purchased unfortunately was a Russian import and image quality doesn't seem to be overly important over there. It looked okay I guess but the whole film felt like a dupe of a dupe. Not as bad as those pirated-off-the-movie-screen-with-a-camcorder-type disks but not top notch either.

Performance-wise it seemed fine but I was a little surprised at how little Laetitia Casta is actually in this film! I know this was early in her career and that her voice was overdubbed by someone else but I can't help but wonder if there wasn't more of her in an original cut that got removed.

Oh well, clearly her most memorable scene in the film was the love scene (even with the horribly annoying song playing over it) but you'd think that given how important her character is at the end, she'd be in it more.

Maybe when it eventually comes out on Blu-ray I'll pick it up just for the one scene!
