Does anyone know in which language the book was originally published?

This seems a fairly easy question, since every English copy I've seen so far mentions "translated from the French"...

BUT;
1. the book was written especially for King George III, and
2. my French copy (published in 1861) states "traduit de l'anglais par Le Comte de Baillon"

One possibility would be that the original text was translated, from English to French, BEFORE the first publication, making the French text the original printed text - Just a wild guess, though...

Anyone?

i believe the memoir was published posthumously (elliot having died in 1823 and the text published in 1859). where did you see it having been written especially for george III ? if that's the case, it would have to had to have been written and presented before 1820, and at that rate the king was already been in the throes of deep illness since 1811.
