Hatch's victory on Aug. 23, 2000 drew 51.7 million viewers, surpassing that year’s World Series, NBA finals, NCAA men’s basketball finals and Grammy Awards. It remains the most-watched Survivor episode to date.

Hatch 'hatched' the first hidden alliance on the show and was seemingly unbeatable. Had there been "hidden immunity idols" in that first season like in the recent 20-30 or so, his plans may have been backfired pretty quickly.
