Half Life 1 Best Game Ever

I think HL 1 is the best game ever, I even prefer HL 1 instead of HL 2...
Because in HL 2 it is to much new things,, because I liked the idea of being trapped in Black Mesa and struggle for survival to get out... Also I liked the HL 1 graphic more then HL 2 because,, I don't really dislike HL 2 is just that I prefer the old game it had the perfect story (even better then Doom), perfect charactars, beliveble story, and the perfect chaos-panic situation in a Research Facility...

HL 1 is holy for me haha... It's a classic, because if you never heard this two qoutes before you gotta have an IQ of 14 : "If you have any bomb targets left, mark them on the tactical map, otherwise get the hell out of there.!" and "With my brains and your brawn, we'll make an excellent team."...

Anyone think the same as me that HL 1 was way more better then HL 2?

Me too, I still played all the HL-games a few months ago (Half-Life, Blue Shift, Op Force and even the demo). The G-Man has something special and creepy, which makes you think and the atmospher is just marvelous. The puzzles during the game, which are pretty easy, are very interesting and the Black Mesa environment has a brilliant ambiance, which makes me thrilled to this game. I think it's better then Half-Life 2 because of the environment and the vent atmospher where you go too. Every year I have a special feeling which makes me think: I will play the game and all the expansions just one more time to get that special feeling again. It was the best game in 1998 when it released and when I played it on my PC with the 3DFX glide on my Voodoo 3, and it still rocks. The graphics were the best at that time, the engine was just awesome and the modifications, Counter-Strike for example, were the best. Quake III, Unreal Tournament etc. were fun, but this game was the best.

Yes ia gree with you, although HL2 is by no means a bad game, on the contrary its very good.

But its just not up to HL. Currently im playing HL:Source and its in some weird more enyojable then Hl2.

And also, the marines, coolest and most itelligent enemy ever? They still to this day sometimes outwit me in combat.

If you were to put HL marines against Combine Overwatch soldiers with their respective weapons and AI. The combine would be decimated. Maybe possibel to do this with garrysmod?

And when the game was new, oh my god they were hard to kill!

And the rest of the game is pure awesomeness, even xen is good.

Definitely preferred the first one to the second one. Disappointed by the lack of aliens in the 2nd one, and the AI of most of the enemies in HL2 was nothing special.

However despite what some people may say I thought that Half Life 2: Episode 2 was a fantastic game, albeit too short. What was good to see is how the maps have been expanded, and there is a lot more freedom of movement. The story remains linear but I like the wider spaces and different ways you can finish a level, especially in the last part of the game. This is definitely a step in the right direction, and hopefully with their next release there will be more areas to explore and hopefull a less linear story

HL had a.. perfect story and perfect characters? huh?

what story?
what characters?

there was perhaps a microscopic bit of each.. but those two things were left for HL2

be realistic, people. the only thing HL and HL2 can compete with each other in is the level of excitement offered.. the only subjective part that matters

As much as I loved HL 1 I have to sort of agree with dakedoom. There were no main characters (other than gordon obviously) and the only story was to get out of the Black Mesa facility.

It still is a really good game though and yes I do prefer it over HL 2.

To die in battle is to live forever.

Halflife was a statement. The art of immersion. It is a perfect game.

Halflife 2 was great as well, but Halflife is one of a kind. The magic works. Never cared for counterstrike. It's about the story, immersion, balance. Halflife defines, and still does.

Half Life has an unique atmosphere. With the starting screen... the sounds of moving train... every moves of objects and living creatures are extremely painstaking. The flowing story is very exiting and full of mystery. Feels very realistic. But not with graphics. With everything! Half Life has not much charachers but every single one has own importance. They're not exist just for exist! They're not random! On every angle Half Life charms me. Everything in the game are just magical things. I don't know how is this can explain with something else. Its way way beyond of a game for me. And always will...

completely agree, best game ever, hl2 loses the real feel of half life with all the rubbish vehicles etc

sorry but i attempted to play sys shock 2 quite recently and found it has not aged well at all, i thought it was slow moving back in the day but now its just ridiculous

half life forever, what other game could you play on pc, dreamcast, ps2, even psp

Half-Life is still my #1 game of all time. I still play it every year, just to get a nostalgic taste of that game-defining game play.

Half life is simply the best PC and shooter game, ever. The only minor nitpick are the last levels on Xen. But everything before that was brilliant and raised the levels of gaming design. It changed forever shooters.
