Aishwarya Rai overacted.

I saw this film about five times in the theatre for academic purposes, because it was the only Indian film to reach the heights in terms of production. On first viewing I thought the same as you. But the movie has to grow on you. If you look at it, she was going through turbulent times with Salman, with whom she was having a bitter seperation with. Her real life spilled onto the screen. This is her best performance to date. And yes, you are right, she has absolutely nil acting skills. This movie was herself, because of her personal battles with Salman, whether she could move on or not. She saw Paro in herself and Salman was the 'figure' in the Devdas character that she was playing against.

She always overacts. Don't care for her as an actress. But then again, they have to deliver cheezy lines. Dialogs were cringe-worthy.
