any non-indians on this board?

I just wanted to know how popular this movie was outside the knowledge of indians. So, where are you from and how did you find out about it?

Well I found out about it one day by looking up Hindi films on my library website and there it was, so I put it on hold, saw it and haven't been the same since.

Btw, here is my reply to the thread you posted on Aish's board:

I'm Italian-American and I just recently began watching Bollywood films. I saw a preview on an Indian channel for this film and I wanted to see it ever since. I have looked for it on television and video stores, but I can't find it. I have watched other Bollywood movies in the meantime though (Bride and Prejudice, Bollywood/Hollywood). Does anyone know where to get this movie?

I'm a girl from Canada--I had seen a bunch of other Bollywood films (Koi Mil Gaya, Krrish, Lagaan, Mohabbathein, Dil to Pagal Hai, DDLJ, etc, etc.) and read about this in an old issue of 'Sight and Sound'. And ever since I've really wanted to see it.

I rented it the other day and was not disappointed!

I'm a non Indian, actually I'm Russian. And I heard about Devdas because I became a huge Aishwarya Rai fan after watching Bride & Prejudice because up until that point that was the onyl film I had ever seen her in and I kept searchign for her sites on the interent afterwards and I looked up her filmography and stuff and read a lot of hype about Devdas and heard that it was an amazing film so it made me want to see it very much and I watched an interview of hers from one of her sites when she came on David Letterman and she metnioend Devdas herself in that interview again so then I really wanted to see it so one day I borrowed it from an Saudi Arabian friend of mine who lived in Pakistan for a while so she knew how to speak and understand Hindi as well and she loved Indian filsm as well and after watching it I loved it so much that I went out and bought Devdas myself.

Hey I'm an African American female who has recently fallen in love with Bollywood and to say the least SRK and Aishwarya. Does anyone know of any really good Bollywood films I can watch?

reply

I would suggest these movies which I have written below, especially the first 5. Being a non indian myself my girlfrined got me hooked to them. I live in philadelphia. I have indian friends, but they actually hate bollywood movies and tell me it's cheesy. Me on the other hand, I love the cheese. I believe that romance and potraying emotions is what they do best in their movies. I'm a huge fan of their movies. I would try the ones I listed below. Especially the first one. If youhad a choice to watch only one I would try the first one. The movie will blow you away. But the rest are just as good as well. You can get them on ebay for less than 10 bucks.

These movies have awesome storylines and soundtracks!!

1) Dil Chahta Hai
2) Hum Tum
3) Salaam Namaste
4) Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham
5) Rang De Basanti
6) Lagaan
7) Kuch Kuch Hota Hai
8) Dil Se

Non-Indian right here! I'm in the US and found Devdas by looking at several filmographies of Aishu and this was one of the best-reviewed, so I got it for cheap online, and I've been in love with Indian Cinema ever since.

Watched Bride & Prejudice about 18 months ago. Ever since I've collected about 150 Bollywood movies. It's become my favorite type of movie.
BTW - I'm American.

I'm from Germany. They were showing this movie 2 or 3 weeks ago but I was at a party so I could not see it. I bought it online after reading reviews online and I was not disappointed. It touched my heart! :D
I started with bollywood movies after watching Kal ho naa ho on TV here in Germany, since then I watched 3 other movies which I all have to buy first. No one rents them here and they are rarely on TV.

Im African from Ghana but i loved bollywood movies since childhood. But i love the classic ones better especially Yeh Vaada Raha, Silsila, Kabhie Kabhie, Mard, Sholay, Maine pyar Kyar, Shaan,Dharam Veer, Mr India, Nagin, Disco Dancer etc. I live in Switzerland now. The`ve shown some bollywood films on tv. I liked Kabhie Ghushie Kabhie Gham,Kuch Kuch Hota Hai,Main Hoon Na and Devdas although i was a little disappointed when Devdas died. Some of the new movies like Elaan, Kisna, Ashok are very cool.
