Is this film available on DVD somewhere?

Does somebody know?

reply

I don't know, but I am looking for it too. It's available on DVD in Italy, but not only does it NOT have English subtitles, but the format for DVDs in Europe (or at least in Italy) differs from here. So if you try to buy it, it won't work on your player.

I love this movie and am becoming increasingly frustrated in trying to locate it.

Subtitles: English & Italian - Region 2.

You need to check 2 things:

. Region: 2 (Europe, Japan, South Africa, and Middle East). There is info on this region code everywhere, including on the IMDb Video board: http://us.imdb.com/board/bd0000009/threads/
Also here: [url]http://www.videohelp.com/[url] or google "free code region DVD"

. Color encoding: there are mainly two standards, NTSC (US & Japan) or PAL (rest of the world). This applies to the disk and the player. They have to match, naturally.
Coming from Europe, this disk is PAL.
There are players available in the US that play both standards.
Playback of PAL DVD films requires a PAL TV or a video converter.

Anyway if you play it on a computer, there won't be any problem.

For some reason, this time I ordered it here: http://www.internetbookshop.it/hme/hmepge.asp on a Sunday and it was in Paris on Thursday. Good wrapping. You can track status of the order. You get a mail when they despatch.

Subtitles: I can see the English subtitles; also possible is Italian subtitles for deaf / hard of hearing people or beginners; also possible is no subtitles.

reply

hi, did you find out if any store here in the states is selling this film?

reply

It is listed among the available movies at Blockbuster

reply

Will that also be Blockbuster in the UK.? and if not will a DVD from the States work in the UK?

reply

Well I guess if you try to play the DVD on a computer it should work or sure you can find the way to play it. You could also order it from Italy and it comes with English subtitles.

You should go on IBS
http://www.internetbookshop.it/dvd/8010020083282/marco-tullio-giordana /cento-passi.html
They ahve the dvd, in italian with both italian and english subtitles (sottotitoli=subtitles; inglese=english).
I checked, IBS ships in Europe (the shipment cost is 8,90 euros + 16% of the items' price for the EU).
I have already shopped on that website, and I can guarantee on their honesty. They are also pretty fast. Only thing, maybe you should get someone who speaks italian or spanish to help you out with the order, since I realise it might be a bit difficult not knowing the language.

I checked on both ibs.it and daaveedee.com.
Daaveedee.com had a better deal for me since I live in the United States. It was $25.28 to get it from daaveedee.com or about $31 in USD to get it shipped internationally from ibs.it. So if you live in Europe, ibs.it may be a better deal, but for United States residents, go to daaveedee.com.

It is NOT available on Blockbusters. I just checked using 1. the italian title, 2. the english title, and 3. the main actor's name. Nada. They have 3 other movies with Luigi lo Cascio, but not this one. Too far left for Blockbusters.

reply

I think you can find it on Netflix now.

reply

It is still not available on Netflix, but I can confirm that a year ago I received my order from the website I previously mentioned. Great movie; I'm glad to have added it to my collection.

The movie "i cento passi" or,in English, 100 steps, is NOT available on Netflix. I just checked (April 9, 2012) and they have it listed as a title, but not one that is currently in their storehouse. Rather, it has a "SAVE" button next to it, meaning that in the event they get it, you can borrow it. I just bought a copy on Amazon, but in PALS format. So I'll have to watch it on my laptop connected to my digital TV. It's a great way to watch PALS format videos.

It is a great film, as I just watched it yesterday at a friend's house (in Sicily, near the town of the actual event). Sad that it is not more widely available, but maybe it is because of the protagonist's leftist viewpoints and activities. Too close to the truth for most American audiences.

I watched the Italian DVD version with English subtitles, Region 2. Unfortunately the features/extras did not come with any subtitles. They interviewed the actors, Peppino's friends, and Peppino's brother and even his mother, who looked surprisingly strong and alert. There was also excerpts from Peppino's diary that was read out. I wish I understood Italian.
