This film is a series of almost random encounters as Danila wanders about shooting people, and inexplicably sleeping with models. Think about, not even very hard, and it makes absolutely no sense. A good film about taking over the organised crime in another country is coincidentally 'Beat' Takeshi's Brother, which is a far superior film to this in nearly every way.
Idiots! You just don't understand the eastern culture. This movie is great because it has very good dialogs in it(smart dialogs),it has a very good soundtrack.Americans just don't get the picture.
I wonder if you have even seen the first one. If you had, you'd understand it isn't just random encounters. You'd really have to understand Russian culture to understand this movie I guess. I thought this was an amazing movie with good dialogues and great music. I guess some people are too narrow minded to understand foreign films.
That's what I think too. If I was asked to recommend this movie to some Russian people, I would definitely do that. Russian people would love to watch it, and the ones who have already watched it watch it again and again. Some phrases and expressions from this movie have already entered our life. It might be difficult to understand this movie for a person coming from a different background, since a lot of stuff they say is untranslatable into other languages. Of course, you can translate it, but the interpreted version will not convey the same meaning, which is why I wouldnt recommend this movie to a foreigner. Only for one reason, it won't be understood the way it should be.
'Salo jabloki veziote?' 'A u vas chto li net?' 'U nas karantin' 'Chto boleete?'
*shakes head* if you look into it a little bit more it is not "random encounters" and he does not even sleep with any models. *continues to shake head* i guess you have to understand russia to get this movie. and danila was not taking over organized crime in america, he doesn't even like america, he hates it there... watch the first one, and then rewatch the second. such disregard for films like this give westerners a bad name. great dialogue and one of the best soundtracks out there.
What everyone else said re: russian culture. One thing this film is NOT is random encounters!! (Sleeping with models??) This film is breathtaking. I am a student of Russian with a real love for Russian cinema, and this surpassed Brat 1. Some of the scenes in the airport upon departure and arrival are classic. Soundtrack is brilliant (Can't find it anywhere - anyone know where to find it??) and the film is just about as un-PC as you can get. 10/10.
As with anything else 'no two tastes are ever the same' but no matter what they are this movie is not awful. Patriotism aside this movie still deserves credit. The airport scene is classic : ) One thing i recommend with foreign films, is to watch them in the original language because dubbing kills the acting (ie tone/stress of the voice)
I enjoyed this film for specific reasons, but to the russians: stop saying stuff like 'you can't understand because you're not familiar with the russian soul' ruskaia dusha my ass! Honestly, without being rude, this is your answer to everything, and it means nothing! This film had good points and also really bad ones, no matter where you're from!

i think russian soul is that everyone who is russian is like one family, they can share with each other and help each other.and i think its rude to say that only russians understand russian films , jokes etc and not true.russians do watch foreign movies and enjoy them so can everyone watch, read, see what they like.
That's not what the russians call 'russian soul', it's not about family, but about the complexity of their personnality (it's not my own opinion, I'm just repeating what my friends call it), all the paradoxes, their love for litterature etc... One of their greatest writers wrote something like 'You can't understand the russian spirit' and now everytime a foreigner doesn't like something, they bring that quote back to explain it. I agree, Russians are paradoxical, but not everything can be explained by this, and when something's bad, sometimes it's just bad, not misunderstood.

Hello, i'm from Romania...a country not that different from Russia. I liked Brat 1&2..but let's be resonable...they are not masterpieces, they have both ups and downs. I guess the problem you guys debated here is somehow showed in Brat 1, in a scene where Danila is in a club and he talks to a french guy, telling him that America is full of crap, and all the americans are the same. Danila tells him that while he smiles at him, the funny thing about this scene is that when the girl that was with him in the club tells him that guy is french not american, he replies that it doesn't matter:) This i must admit is great Russian humor:D
hahaha i agree. Amerikanzi eti bolshenstvo tupiye. Dazhe fili horoshiye ne mogut delat. adno dermo Amerikanzi delayut. Vot tupiye ludi eti amerikanthzi...
I've seen both Brat 1&2 and Takeshi's Brother, and as i hate all this pathetic patriotic stuff in movies (regardless what country they are coming from), i like Takeshis one better. If you wanna find out something about the famous "russian spirit" read some Dostoyewsky book instead. I also thought the scene where Danila seduces this black chick was ridiculous and the whole film left some kinda rasistic aftertaste. And i'm a native Russian speaker, so don't tell me i didn't get it.
