Lexie Vs Katrina!

Out of the shows two leading ladies which do you prefer?

I like both in different ways but have to admit Lexie has the edge over Katrina in terms of loyalty and funner personality. Katrina could be fun when she wanted to but Lexie was cracking great one liners through out all of the first two series! also Katrina leaving Archie at the start of Series 3 did her no favours. Also I refuse to accept the way the writers made Katrina the bitch she was in the episode she starred in series 4 that wasn't the real her!

I always preferred Lexie. I started watching in the middle of series 3, so I didn't know much about Katrina, but then when I went back and watched the first few series, I liked the idea of Archie and Katrina (maybe it's just based on all the tension of unrequieted love). I still have to say Lexie though, she's just awesome.

And I totally agree, I don't understand why they made Katrina such a bitch in the episode, it didn't seem to fit.

Making Katrina out to be a bitch IMO was a ploy to make Lexie look all the nicer, considering she was the one that would stay on the series, and it'd do no good to have her be unlikeable. It didn't sit all that well with me, especially since IMO Lexie had a distinctively conniving streak in her early on, a trait which has been conveniently buried now.

Look, being completely objective -- and female -- I have to say I never actually thought either one of the two women were all that attractive. I never thought either one of them had chemistry with Archie either. That could be Archie's fault. He just never convinced me he was in love with either woman.

In fact, Susan Hampshire is the most attractive woman on the show, technically. But to get down to it, the MEN! Meine gute! Fergal especially, but also Paul. Holey moley. Those two were hot, hot, hot. I can see how this works: ladies can be plain janes and still get the eye-popping dudes. If I weren't married, I'd be headed for Glenbogle.

reply

Susan Hampshire's shining beauty and smile are absolutely striking. THE most attractive woman, inside and out, on the show. In my humble opinion. She's fantastic!

I was hoping Archie would have ended up with Katrina. The thing is, it seems that both Katrina and Lexie did all the pursuing. Archie had an attraction to both women yet he seemed to take their attentions for granted. If I were in his place I would have acted on my feelings much sooner. Katrina worked so hard to win his affection I have to wonder if she suffered from poor self-esteem to be so besotted by someone who continually failed to validate her feelings and couldn't make more of a commitment.

Couldn't wait for Justine to leave. Couldn't stand her.

I always preferred Katrina, Archie and Lexie had NO chemistry! I was just watching an old episode where Katrina and Archie were finally together and they actually had some relatively passionate kisses. It seemed like Archie was always giving Lexie a quick peck but never a real kiss.

Did anyone ever see Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders' "Monarch of the Glum" spoof? They had Alistair Mackenzie guest star and everytime Lexie (played by Dawn French) would lean forward to kiss him he'd lean away and say "Don't kiss me." At first I thought it was b/c Dawn French was playing Lexie but then I realized it's because Archie never kisses Lexie! Made the spoof even funnier If anyone has Netflix rent "French & Saunders: On the Rocks", the "Monarch of the Glum" spoof is in the special features, it's really hysterical!

I've spent the past week watching the first three series and I think it's criminal how Katrina was foisted off the show. She and Archie finally get together only to have her leave on some lame career move. Granted it may have been the most sensible explanation given her portrayer was starting a family, but it just seemed such a waste. I always rooted for her and Archie. She clearly had so much love to offer...

Still, she got a better deal than poor Golly's love, Meg.

I'll have to check out that spoof!

Stella was an interesting interloper. Such a hoot! "DUNCAN!" A perfect blend of hot and cold.

^^^True but thats just the way things go, seemingly the Monarch creator had always intended on getting Lexie & Archie together though so I think they'd have got together in the end anyway.

At first I liked Lexie better because I thought she was sweeter. But, I thought intellectually that Katrina was a bigger challenge to Archie. Seemed like Lexie moved from cook to wife of the laird too quickly and unrealistically. Also, as others pointed out I don't think Lexie and Archie had great sexual chemistry. It was better with Katrina.

I think I read that Katrina actually was pregnant on the show, so maybe that's why she was unceremoniously booted out so quickly? Maybe she was showing too much and that, along with maybe other reasons, was why they quickly got rid of her?
Doesn't Lexie eventually leave too? I think I read that BOTH actresses got pregnant and that's why they were each written out?
Maybe i can find the link...

Either way, i DO NOT like Lexie with Archie!!!! NOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

Lexie is obnoxious, crass, and just seems sort of loose and of little real substance. Katrina seems much better and a strong character/person in general.

I noticed right away that there aren't really any drop-dead hotties on the show! Even Archie! He's good looking in a boy-next-door way, as is Katrina, but no one is really jaw-droppingly sexy! As I watched, some of the characters grew on me and had their own sex appeal, but just on looks...yeah...not so much.
Espcially Justine!! I guess she was supposed to be the bad one anyways, but eek!! Get some hair volumizer and some nicer make-up at least lady!!!!

Everyone just looked very...normal...I want to see beautiful people on TV goshdarnit!!!! haha!

Personally I'm a lexie fan, totally prefer her character she is funny, sweet and loyal to Archie. This may have something to do with the fact that I saw season 3 on first. However i will add this, Archie never really seemed suited for either of them, lexie and him was a tad rushed and he never really pursued Katrina so i never really believed he loved her as much as it was claimed.

reply

Ewwww, just 'eewww'... Did NOT like the character Fergal a-tall, especially the icky-greasy-like Ryan Phillipe/Debbie Wasserman-Schultz-looking hair-DON'T he had going on...totally repugnant...

Katrina hands down, the writers invested 2 whole seasons to her and archies trying to get together and tossed her off in one shot, and they did it in the worst way possible. Plus, i think Lorraine is just gorgeous, dawn is nothing to wince at in any way, but Lorraine always seemed to light up the scenes she was in weather dressed up or in scruffy clothes. Plus the way they put Archie/lexie together so quick seemed forced at best. But then when the characters started to leave the show lost its luster, and the magic never came back with different characters(the connection and stories just werent there.

reply

^^^I have to disagree there I find Dawn much more attractive than Lorraine but then each to their own, both are attractive women in their own right.

Lexie all the way! She's got spunk and a heart of gold, whereas I found Katrina - although the story with her and Archie was fundamentally good - abbrasive, patronising and self-righteous. In short, I couldn't stand her. Lexie was just gorgeous.

And to whoever said they never had a decent kiss, they actually had a pretty decent snog in season 1 :P

reply

I just finished watching season 3 today. I like Lexie but it did seem way too rushed, the way they suddenly shoved she and Archie together. I think an earlier poster was right - I'm not really buying that Archie is pursuing her. Seems too casual about it. I'm just not feeling any chemistry yet. Maybe season four will help.

reply

Lexie all the way because I think Katrina is

a) Not particularly nice
b) not trustworthy
c) I can't believe she went for Fergal over our wee Arch!!!!!!!!!!!

I didn't really like Katrina, she kind of got on my nerves. I loved Lexie's character though, she is funny and much more likeable in my opinion.

I've just finished re-watching the first three series, having not watched them for a couple of years. I also didn't see the first series or most of the second.

So, that said, I just want to say that Lexie is a troll. What a horrible, self-righteous, mean cow.

All through the first three series, it's hinted at that she really, really likes Archie. Yet, when he needed support the most, she was the frontrunner in the "let's stick it Archie" stakes. She was the loudest, meanest, most unsupportive sow. And she only changed her tune when she was proven wrong. And then it was all ok.

I know this is only a show and that things are embellished for entertainment purposes, but seriously people, if you had a friend who abused you like that, would you continue to be friends with them??

She was shocking! And the worst was when A&L were to be married right after Hectors funeral. Archie is obviously struggling with his guilt and his grief and would probably have loved the support of his soon-to-be wife. And what does she do?? Chucks a tanty at him because he's going through a bad patch & not thinking straight, then up & leaves him when he needs her most. And he's the one who's got to grovel back to her.

Man, I'd have let her go (if I were a bloke that is!).

Lexie generally only ever showed compassion and support for Archie after she'd been proven to be out of line.

So whilst Katrina was irritating and irksome, I think I would have preferred her.

reply

katmiow I think you missed the whole point of why Lexie didn't want to marry Archie in Series 3 episode 11, Hector had just died the whole wedding was certainly gonna be filled with despair, guilt and unhappiness. Archie merely wanted to rush into the wedding as he wanted something to help him forget the guilt he was feeling over the way he ended things with Hector - that is no reason to want to marry someone you should both be in a place of true mutual happiness that just wasn't so. Lexie never planned on leaving him dont you recall her punchline of revealing she'd bought a return ticket meaning she always planned on returning to him.

Lexie was anything but a troll she was loving caring loyal and most of all a true friend to everyone at Glenbogle. Katrina was great the first two series but in series 4 now that was a troll there not the Katrina I loved from series 1 & 2
