Horrible screenplay ever.

I usually never post about bad movies, but this one is really really horrible. It's the worst movie I've seen for years. 4 millions $ for this crap, all the cheap b-movies I've seen are far better. I can write a script like that in one night.

reply

No way!!!

reply

Give me half of what the screenwriter had for this movie and I write something even better, in one night...

reply

Yeah give you half a bullet and you will scream !

What a movie! can't you see that Ringo Lam can turn a 6 million budget movie in a 40 million budget project.

Chadelle ! wake up from your bad dreams .

In Hong Kong they relatively had a lot less money to work with than Hollywood directors, so it isn't too surprising that Ringo Lam and John Woo could do so much with so little.
It's quite amazing to see.

I know this funy answer vut so far never met someone who actually proved to be able to write a good script in one night. Let's see you, take your own challenge and make the 40 millions.

RINGO LAM MADE REPLICANT WITH A TOTAL PRODUCTION COST OF 7 MILLION DOLLARS.
THE FILM WAS COMPLETED IN ALMOST 3 MONTHS ALL DONE.

EVERY BODY, HONESTLY, TELL ME THAT IF YOU WILL WATCH REPLICANT FOR THE FIRST TIME WHAT WILL YOU THINK OF ITS BUDGET.... OBVIOUSLY MORE THAN 20 MILLION OR AROUND 15 ...

Come on guys maybe you think that 7 million dollars is cheap, but i've seen movies made with less than a million and far better than Replicant. A big bunch of $ doesn't mean a good movie, never.

I don't think that the problem comes from Ringo Lam but from the people who writte the script: Larry Riggins and Les Weldon.

I think it's possible to write a screenplay (not a shooting script) as bad as Replicant in one night (or a few days). If someone is interested to do it with me...

reply

I agree this is truly horribly executed film that is also flat. If i want to see a film that looks horrible and is fully proud of it i'll watch undeniably Van Damme's best film "Knock Off", i'm still waiting when he'll do something better than that cult classic. And Ringo Lam? WTF... hahaha, please... ah ringo lam... please! Did he do any at least a decent film once? i saw his City on Fire, and that was cheezy as hell.

kill everybody and then kill yourself, have a nice 3 seconds

reply

This film was awesome, one of his best easily.

reply

I was sure the budget was at least 10 millions!

This movie was excellent, van damme, rooker and dent were very good, also the cast was good.

Ringo Lam is a great director and this movie is one of his best directed.

I suggest u go buy this movie, cause it's worth it.

reply

Come on man,how can you call this movie horrible? It doesn't deserve it,it's a really good movie. It has one of the best and one of the most brutal fighting scenes, even only this should have prevented you from saying such a thing.

reply

The problem with this movie don't really comes from the direction. The movie is descent for what it is and and the acting is okay, especially for Michael Rooker, which is definitively excellent when he play hyper-violent bastards. But I can't see any work on the screenplay and the characters development. I've seen it some years ago now, but I remember that the characters were more than cliches and the screenplay was horrible, so the watching really exasperated me. Maybe I should change the title of this message.

Otherwise there was an excellent scene where Vandamme eats a banana with the peel. There is a similar scene in K-Pax but the banana use was made of wax and sugar, in Replicant it's a real one, so I take off my hat to Van Damme! So maybe this movie worth the watch for this scene.

reply

This movie simply cant be the worst youve seen. If it is, you need to see more movies. ITs not that bad.

reply

It's actually pretty good and smart, and the script is very well written.

nah im sorry guys compared to the other movies he has done this movie was garbage period.

reply

I think this film was indeed awful but hilariously so. I hadn't laughed that much for weeks ! Just the fact Rooker talks to Van Damme like if he was a dog during the whole film (Sit ! Stay !) did it for me. And that scene where he undresses him, haha !

This movie was great and I loved watching it too! I felt this should have went out at the movie theaters. That is how good I thought that it was. It has been a long time since I have seen Van Damme make a good action film.

REAL important question: Did you ever READ the original screenplay? Do you actually believe the original screenplay as written was shot as written?

It wasn't that bad you drunk or something?

horrible grammar ever

reply

I was young when I wrote that, but can't erase it now, it'll pursue me forever ;) I'll give this movie another try, I promise, juste for the real banana that Van Damme eat with the skin. I love this guy, he got cult status here in France and give such incredible interviews. Here's an example translated specialy for you guys: "I am fascinated by air. If you took away the air of the sky, all the birds would fall to the ground. And also the planes. At the same time, you cannot touch the air. It exists and it doesn't. It feeds the man without him being hungry. "It's magic (in english in the interview)". The air is beautiful but at the same time you can not see it, it's soft and you can not touch it. The air is somewhat like my brain."

The screenplay was brilliant. It had a back story for the killer, he wasn't just some psycho and he had a little bit of empathy.

The acting from JCVD was good, he does a developing genetic double role really well.

I don't know if this was written in this way, but the scene near the end where evil JCVD is randomly kicking hospital staff AND sick people was simple amazing. It was unintentionally hilarious and unneeded, but the baddie did it anyway.
