Aaliyah was perfect.

The only good thing in this film. So hot and evil. :)

She was the best interpretation of a character from the books.

yeah, and I fell in love with Stuarts's Lestat than Cruise. I thought Cruise's Lestat was dead on but I just cant see him becoming a rock star

She was attractive as a vampiress-Goddess, yes.. but I thought Moreau's character at the end (when she's a vampire) was more sexy, hehe. Lena Olin was another beauty.. very stunning as an immortal.

what? best interpretation? She didn't even look like Akasha from the book and don't snake dance. For starters Akasha even as the mother of all Vampires can never walk the sun nor had that kind of power to give into anybody. Its just silly they got Akasha all wrong in this movie, yet her acting is much likable then that of Stuart with his weird face, wrong accent and even has a renfield style assistant to do the hunting of innocent groupies. Stuart was very hunting as Lestat! His nothing more the a Dracula in leader jacket!

She could stay in the song longer than most vampires, by longer I mean longer. So she does have that power to some degree.

reply

Huh Song? what song? Walking on sunshine? HAHA what are you talking about?? Try drinking blood dear its yummy and salty...Joke! ;)

agree with most of this except for anything that praises her acting. the accent, the snake dancing...wtf? it was horrible. all of it. all copies should be buried and forgotten.

reply

Its obvious we always agree because we both treasure the book. And what this film did is not really funny, its insulting to both movie making and the literature world.

I agree, I never knew about the books before I saw the movie. And I feel in love with her preformance. She was captivating. I even started reading the books because of her LOL

she was pretty bad.

You can't swing a dead cat in hollywood without hitting someone with a vampire script

reply

If I was going to be a vampire, I'd be here, she was on point. My favorite scenes from the movie involved her. The bar scene when she torches everyone...well done.

You decide your own level of involvement.

Bar scene for the win. Putting the Anne Rice books aside. Aaliyah's Akasha was Amazing. She is one of the Hottest female vampire ever. Aaliyah, Salma Hayek, and Kate Beckinsale are my top 3.

yes this is true, just of the films interpretation of Akasha, she does the acting spotless. If we follow the books, not so much. Then again this movie does not follow the books that much. So its kind of open field for acting here.

I do love her in this role thou. She has that sweet sence of a godess i guess.

As a longtime fan of the books who finally got around to watching this (I stayed away for years on account of the bad press this film received), I have to say that I was quite pleased (well, at least not completely put off) with the way the film was being presented, changes and condensations and all, right up until Aaliyah/Akasha came out. Then suddenly it was like driving down a road and hitting an unexpected speed bump.

I tend to think now that all the people who praise Aaliyah's performance do so just because they happen to like Aaliyah. Not because she even came close to achieving anything resembling Akasha, much less capable acting. In fact I had to laugh at one bit during the finale where it sounded as if she slipped into a Transylvanian accent!

The snake dancing as well was just jarring. Up until she emerged in this film, it was playing as a pretty decent enough adaptation with everyone paying it straight. Then suddenly upon her 1st scene, it slipped into 'camp' territory. It was that disruptive to the tone of the film.

when i initially watched this i kinda felt weird... becasue aaliyah had this good girl image (and also she was dead) and here she was full of sex and pure evil. .and then i saw all the those dead men on the beach and i was like oh nooo... i felt so wrong haaha
but some of her acting makes much more since in the extended scenes/cut scenes..its so much better if they would have kept it. but she was gooooooodddd...if evil,soul-less and hot hot sexy was the goal..she got it

Oh please, pull the other one its got bells on! Aaliyah was a pathetic actress, and she didn't act, look or sound like Akasha. Mostly to blame of course are the scriptwriters and director, not the actress.

Aaliyah was the WORST Akasha they could have chosen.
