I give this film 9.5 out of 10. It is in my opinion near perfection.
Acting is outstanding.

I'll second that. I saw a copy and immediatly afterwards ordered the dvd from Amazon. It sure leaves an impression.
I think the key to its success is the fact that Ivan is putting on this elaborate public persona yet all the time he is being eaten away within: a) by the cancer quite physically and b) by the resultant insecurity and fear. It is only a matter of time before the facade crumbles to nothing. Excellent movie!
Having just watched this again...it sings, not one false note; true, sad, but beautiful at the same time.
