Why no Chameleon TV Series?

Was there ever talk of a Chameleon TV series at the time when they made this final Chameleon movie?The ending of the film left me with the vibe that a sequel was coming to tie up the loose plot threads but no Chameleon 4 was made and no series unless you count James Camerons Dark Angel which I loved but suspected that he stole the idea from Chameleon.

So it's treason then!
