Did any guys like this?

I can't comprehend that, aside from being caught up in the run of the mill love story anyone would think that this movie is anything but truly awful. It's corny, poorly scripted, implausible and it contains Nicolas Cage.

So, did any guys out there enjoy the film or does it rely solely on the the viewer being able to forgive three glaring awfulness through appreciation of the 'love story'?

I liked it. I like movies about ww2, especially when they are true stories. Plus my mother was Greek and my Father was Italian and they both grew up during the war so it kind of gives me a little peek at what their lives were like back then.

I went to see the film on the strength of my enjoyment of the novel - easily one of the best books I've read and, believe me, I've read a lot of books! Massive disappointment that captured little of the novel. Too schmaltzy and it turned a complex work into simplistic love story with a totally different ending. I knew it was going to be crap the moment John Hurt started talking like the guy in my local kebab shop, and I was right.

what's good about a novel that think a daughter of a doctor is not equal to a fisherman because her farts are from a superior class that's only equal to a captain in fascist army that kill your people stinking traitor!

i mostly will not be able to answer your reply, since marissa mayer hacked my email, no notification

I did! I found the lush cinematography and strong soundtrack counterbalanced any melodrama in the love story.

I did!!! The cinematography and location work and music was excellent. It had good ethnic value and it had great historical context. As a matter of fact I am trying to figure why people did not like it???
