I'm interested in background information

This story of Rosalba's coming into her own is as close to an exemplar of women's midlife experience of questioning and testing relationships I have viewed so far. I am very interested if anyone knows if this was an original story or if it was based on some other piece of literature, e.g. book, autobiography, etc.
I plan on using this movie in my current study of women in midlife transition and their views of their relationships. If anyone has another movie you think women may react to similar to this one, I'd love your suggestions.

Thanks

Under the Tuscan Sun.

Shirley Valentine is a good resource, as is The Enchanted April.

Yes, there are many but I can't think of one now... oh, here's one, I'm watching 'Weeds' on showtime... midlife woman on the run... oh! Moonstruck, with Sher and Winona... And the one with Susan Sarandon, 'Anywhere but Here' she leaves her husband and goes to Beverly Hills with her angry daughter, oh! Thelma and Louise!... The Banger Sisters...

Ah, four years late on this, but if you're planning courses and not just turning in a past-due paper , try "Saving Grace" (2000): http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0195234/
