This movie is genius in terms of genre blending.

Martial arts, suspense, horror, romance, period piece, thriller and there is an element of mystery. I love this film and i reccomend it to any fan of, well, any genre lol.
8 out of 10.

Couldn't have said it better myself, Nocountry. Brotherhood of the Wolf has a little bit of everything and is one of my favorite movies. I just experienced another piece of art recently called Bone Tomahawk that combined western and horror that surprised as well with two very different genres in one movie. It doesn't have as much variety as BOTW, but it is well done and entertaining.

Even after 15 years, I can't think of another film that pulls everything off as well as this one.🐭

If you liked Bone Tomahawk (easily one of my personal favorites) you should definitely check out Brawl In Cell Block 99.

Vince Vaughn gives a performance of a lifetime as one of the most low-key bada$$ characters in movie history. A lot of it has to do with his stature and how he carries his gait. I can't think of anyone else who could have pulled off that role the way he did, because he wasn't a try-hard bada$$ like Vin Diesel or The Rock, he was the kind that has been through stuff and knows he doesn't have to be bada$$ anymore, which is what made the movie that much better.

Anyway, back on topic... I loved The Brotherhood of the Wolf, simply because Mark Dacascos finally got to shine outside of his typical low-budget fanfare.

Agreed, and I'd also add Western to the genre fusion going on here. (And you could throw in Fantasy if you really wanted to stretch it, with some of the things that transpire toward the end of the film.) Just watched it again tonight and I'm still blown away after all these years. So many concepts thrown into a blender but it absolutely works on every level.

It even pays homage to Hammer horror films of the 60's.

It's hugely enjoyable.

Though I would only give it a 6.5/10, I do agree that it is a beautifully blended film. I enjoyed it. Cool concepts.

I think the breakdown in the description is wrong. Weren't they sent as agents of the Vatican and not the king?

reply

Totally agree, I absolutely hate genre blendings but this movie was so smooth and so well done in all aspects.

i gave it 9/10.
