My god, I am so sick of people bitching about this movie comparing it to Ninja Scroll. This movie is not a sequel to Ninja Scroll. It never was and never was intended to be.
Don't take your frustrations out on this movie because you made a mistake. This story predates Ninja Scroll; if anything, Ninja Scroll is a ripoff of Makai Tensho.
If you want to criticize this movie on its own merits, than please do so. But complaining that it's not enough like Ninja Scoll or Willy Wonka or whatever just makes you look like a moron.

It annoys me that people say it rips off Ninja Scroll by using Jubei, even though he is a legendary Japanese character, not invented by Ninja Scroll (and historically had an eye patch).

I've seen people saying on here that Sword For Truth was a Ninja Scroll rip off as well, despite coming out several years before (I'm not saying it isn't still very poor though)!

Agreed! I've never seen this, but I almost purchased an over-priced VHS copy from a garage sale because I'm a huge Ninja Scroll fan, and everything on the box suggested it was a sequel to NS. I finally wised up before I bought it, and I'm glad.

A sequel to Ninja Scroll? There was a TV series released in 2003. It was pretty much a dumbed down version and wasn't directed by the man behind the original. You're not missing a lot.

There's been talk of a true sequel for some time but it's come to nothing so far.

Hope to see the sequel to Ninja Scroll, although I have to mention that Ninja Resurrection itself has a very good animation, ambient, storytelling format, and so sad the last 2 episodes could not get the funding, is creepy stuff, cause, the worst thing that happened to this and why so bad fuzz about it was the to be continued stuff of the second part when we are finally introduce to the main villains jumping around till you see Shiro Amakusa as the Antichrist himself.

The thing is, some of us have been around since before popular internet access. And way back in 1997 There was only word of mouth and crappily dubbed anime only available on VHS. Now if you were around back then and you shelled out 30 bucks for this on VHS assuming it was more of Ninja Scroll, you've got a right to be pissed. 30 bucks and 30 minures long and no 'JUBEIIIIII!!!!"
