Wrestlemania 14 Review.

I have developed a scoring card to give the most accurate star rating possible for my reviews. For the most part I think they are pretty accurate:

5 Star Match= A 3.0 star IMDB rating
4 1/2 Stars Match= A 2.5 star IMDB rating
4 stars Match= A 2.0 star IMDB rating
3 1/2 stars Match= A 1.5 star IMDB rating
3 stars Match= A 1.0 star IMDB rating
2 1/2 stars Match= A .7 star IMDB rating
2 star match= A .5 star IMDB rating
1 1/2 star match= A .3 star IMDB rating
1 star match = A .2 star IMDB rating
1/2 star match = A .1 star IMDB rating
Dud= A O IMDB rating

It's Wrestlemania 14. The beginning of the attitude era. We are live from Boston.

Match 1: Tag Team Battle Royale Match. LOD make their return here in there new LOD 2000 look. Sunny is now there manager (for about a month). Nothing special. LOD win it last eliminating the New Midnight Express. 1 star.

Match 2: Light Heavyweight Title Match: Taka Michinoku Vs Aguila. WWF created this title because they probably saw WCW tearing ass with their cruiserweights. Okay match. Taka scores the pin after a michinoku driver to retain the title. 2 stars

Match 3: European Title Match: HHH Vs Owen Hart. Chyna is handcuffed to Sgt Slaughter so she can't interfere. Both guys put on a decent match. Chyna throws gold bond powder in slaughters eyes and gives Owen a low blow. HHH scores a pedigree and the win to retain. 2 stars.

Match 4: Mix Tag Match: Marc Mero and Sable Vs Artist Formely Known As Goldust and Luna. So so match. Sable gets the win for her team after a TKO on luna. 2 stars

Match 5: Intercontinental Title Match: Rock Vs Shamrock. Shamrock beats Rocks ass for a good 6 minutes and puts on the ankle lock, Rock taps out and we got a new IC champ. Kama comes in to help Rock but gets a belly to belly suplex from Shamrock. Mark Henry comes in and gets the same. Farooq comes to ringside but decides not to help, Rock is bleeding from the mouth. Shamrock goes back to the ankle lock. The officials come in and try to stop Shamrock, he goes nuts and beats up the referees like an idiot. Referee decides to reverse his decision. Rock keeps his IC title. Shamrock attacks Rock while he's on a stretcher and beats him up near the DX band stand. Stupid ending but I didn't care for Shamrock anyway. 1 1/2 star.

Match 6: Dumpster Match For The Tag Titles. New Age Outlaws Vs Cactus Jack And Chainsaw Charlie. Basically a Hardcore Match. Charlie gets powerbombed into the dumpster. Outlaws and Cactus fight to the backstage area. Charlie makes his way back and mans a forklift. Jack puts the Outlaws on the wood pallet and they dump them in a dumpster backstage for the win. New Tag Champs? Entertaining match 2 1/2 stars. The Tag titles were returned to the Outlaws the next day because they didn't use the official dumpster. Cactus Jack also quit the company for some dumass reason, so we got Dude Love until Mankind became hug e at the King Of The Ring 98 for going off the cage.

Match 7: Undertaker Vs Kane. Pete Rose is supposed to be the guest ring announcer but decides to bust on the Boston fans. Kane comes down to ringside and gives him a tombestone. Fans love it. Taker does a classic Mania entrance and we start the match. Two big guys beating on eachother. Taker tries diving over the top rope but misses and flies into the Spanish Announcers Table. Taker hits a tombestone but Kane kicks out. Taker hits a second tombestone but Kane kicks out. Taker gets a final third tombestone for the win. Alright match I say 2 1/2 stars.

Match 8: World Title Match. Shawn Michaels Vs Steve Austin. Mike Tyson is the special enforcer at ringside and is with DX. Shawn makes his way to ringside and makes a comment about dedicating this match to Earl. I wonder what he means by that???hmm. Nice match. Shawns back is really bad here. Both guys control back and forth. The referee goes down after getting smashed in the corner. Very nice finish. Shawn goes for the super kick, Austin ducks, Austin tries a stunner, Shawn shoves him off and tries another super kick, Austin catches the leg spins him around and gives him a stunner. Tyson runs in to make a fast three count, Austin scores the pin and we have a new champion. Shawn confronts Tyson for putting on an Austin t-shirt, and gets decked. This would be Shawns last match until 2002. The Austin/Attitude era has begun. 3 1/2 stars.

This one finishes a little lower on the new score system. Maybe too low. It only fetches a 4.9 but for me personally that star rating fits my opinion of watching it live. Austin/Michaels was good but it's not one of my personal favs. It loses out to Mania 13 which had Bret/Austin which wins out by a measly .1 rating but it's ahead of Mania 12.

Best Match: Shawn Vs Austin
Worst Match: Tag Team Battle Royale

Current standings:

Mania 10: 7.3
Mania 3: 7.1
Mania 6: 7.0
Mania 5: 7.0
Mania 7: 6.9
Mania 4: 6.8
Mania 8: 5.9
Mania 13: 5.7
Mania 14: 4.9
Mania 2: 4.8
Mania 12: 4.6
Mania 1: 4.1
Mania 11: 3.9
Mania 3: 3.8

You're really great at reviews, dude!

You liked WM10? I hate WM10. 12 and 13 are both better then 10 by far.

This was the first I watched and I don't think any since had topped, 19 is closest.

My only nitpick is I wasn't a fan of the Battle Royal a the start I feel Manias with Battle Royals are redundant since the Rumble was only 2 months earlier. Perhaps it's an attempt to allow as many competitor as possible to be able to be apart of the big event, but I think it felt like mostly a waste.

The only important thing from it was seeing the new LOD with Sunny back, however reveling that the Battle Royal's winner was gonna get a title shot kinda spoiled who would win since they had the built in feud already. LOD and Sunny could have just poked their heads into the Tag Title match, and the remaining time could have been spent on giving a more decent ending to the NWA invasion storyline.

Ken torturing Rock was great, the HH vs Owen match had a predictable ending but was still a cool moment, the Dumpster match was awesome, the Taker Kane match was Taker's best Mania match, and the Main Event is legendary.

I don't get the Earl comment?

"It's not about money.... It's about sending a Message..... Everything Burns!!!"

Earl Hebner was the poor sap who had to referee Bret Michaels a SS 97. At this moment he was in the hospital for something and Shawn dedicated the match to him. Which is just friggin hilarious.

reply

Haha, that is awesome, I can't believe I missed that at the time.

WWF WrestleMania XIV - The "Reliving The War" PPV Review

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_z74ziy3QBU

WWF WrestleMania XIV took place in Boston on March 29th 1998. Seen by many fans as a turning point for the WWF and the show that helped WWF become much more competitive with WCW, WrestleMania 14 is a landmark edition of the WWF's biggest show of the year.

WrestleMania 14 is headlined by a WWF Championship match; Shawn Michaels of D-Generation X vs Stone Cold Steve Austin. Austin won the right to face HBK at the 1998 Royal Rumble but since then a lot of twists and turns have appeared on the road to WrestleMania. Mike Tyson, the special guest enforcer for the main event, joined DX - a move that helped stacked the odds against Stone Cold. Also, in a much more real sense, Shawn Michaels had suffered a serious back injury at both his physical and mental state were not good heading into the big main event in Boston. Both competitors had a few things they'd need to overcome to ensure the main event entertained.

Elsewhere on the card The Undertaker finally steps into the ring with his little brother Kane, the New Age Outlaws defend their tag team titles against Cactus Jack & Chainsaw Charlie in a dumpster match, and The Rock puts his Intercontinental Championship up for grabs in a match against Ken Shamrock.
