Let Dark Sky Films know you want THE ROOMMATES on DVD!!!

After a couple months of inactivity on their website, it looks like Dark Sky Films is still going ahead with their DVD releases. Their recent blog entry talks about some of their catalog titles that haven't been issued yet and they are asking for your feedback to help determine future releases.

"You may be asking, “But what about all those awesome catalog titles you’re sitting on, Dark Sky? Films like BONNIE’S KIDS, THE ROOMMATES, THE ONE-ARMED EXECUTIONER, THEY CALL HER CLEOPATRA WONG, DEATH SPA, and HORROR HOSPITAL?” Well, all ya gotta do is ask and if there’s enough of you wanting them, so it shall be done. Simple economics, eh? Email us and tell us you want these titles and more."

Here's some encouraging news regarding Dark Sky's upcoming DVD releases from AVManiacs.com (specifically post #9 of the thread):

I would like to contact Dark sky films and let them know that I will be a buyer of Roommates - however, their web site doesn't allow for contact and the link you gave above doesn't seem to work - any suggestions?

reply

Come on, Dark Sky. Don't make us beg!

reply

Unfortunately that's what it has apparently come to. Dark Sky has mentioned (on their Facebook page and via AVManiacs.com) that they are foregoing the classic drive in titles and concentrating on newer horror features, as DVD sales are down and they are going where the market is apparently telling them to go. This movie has NEVER been issued on ANY form of home video, so while Dark Sky is going with their newer releases, hopefully they'll toss us an occasional vintage bone, with THE ROOMMATES being the first of those!

Or maybe if some lame remake happens someday then there would be incentive to release the original.

If I ever win the lotto I think I'd pay Dark Sky to release it.

reply

Come on, Dark Sky... you've held this movie hostage long enough!!!

Hopefully this isn't a false alarm, but End Films recently posted on their site that (among other films) THE ROOMMATES is currently in production (listing MPI Media/Dark Sky Films as the distributor). Approaching with caution, but hopefully the long wait will be over soon!

Once again I hope I'm not jumping the gun, but Dark Sky/MPI is FINALLY going ahead with a blu-ray of DEATH SPA, which was also listed as "in-production" on that End Films link I provided, so let's hope THE ROOMMATES will FINALLY see the light of day soon!!! Our patience certainly deserves to be rewarded here!

Good news: most of the films that were listed as "in production" on that End Films link (including DEATH SPA and HOME BEFORE MIDNIGHT) have been released! Upon checking the site about a week ago, only two titles remained under the "in production" category (THE ROOMMATES and SWITCHBLADE SISTERS). Not so good news: I checked the site again a couple of days ago and the site now reads "END Films is closed for business". There is a link that leads to www.elijahdrenner.com. I checked out this new site and while there's not much information there aside from a few recent releases (including a feature on actor Dick Miller), the home page still lists all the companies that End Films did production work for, including DARK SKY, MPI Films and GORGON. Hopefully these titles will be carried forward, unfortunately in the meantime it looks like yet ANOTHER obstacle has been placed in front of a home video release for THE ROOMMATES.

The Roommates is now available in a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack from Gorgon video, double-billed with A Woman for All Men.
