Short Run

I saw the premiere of this show. It aired on a Saturday night and was apparently cancelled after one airing. The movie it was based on was great and it seems the show was never given a chance. For that matter, the movie was never given a chance for a sequel, even though it was suggested just before the end credits. Roddy McDowell did an excellent job as Chiun, nearly identical to Joel Grey in the movie version. Alas, another good idea gathering dust in the halls of forgotten shows.

Yeah, it sucks. I loved the movie, the TV show wasn't near as good, but it was still fun. The movie was directed by Guy Hamilton, director of many of the early Bonds including Goldfinger and Diamonds Are Forever - so he knows the genre like no other and was very adroit at sending it up. A sequel would have been great fun.

I just saw the pilot this morning and it was awful, especially the scene where he slides down the spray of a firehose and no firemen see him, I didn't get that part. I can see why the show wasn't picked up, the movie was good but the pilot was borderline unwatchable.
