Were debating is it pro pills? or against pills? I think its this... It's pretty nihilistic in a sense that the statement could've just been that, well you're not ever gonna change because your pain is who you are, but pills are at least gonna cover that up enough to make you go on with life. Pretty much saying you're screwed if you don't and you're still kinda screwed if you do but at least you won't annoy people around you and you'll make your parents proud! It's like saying, no amount of therapy could help a person like her. This movie is grim if you think about it...

What I got from the ending is that so many of us are having a hard time in life. Some need therapy and some need medication, but we all need something sometimes to numb the pain, the confusion, the emotions, the thoughts that fill us and cause us to lose control. I believe some of us are stronger in controlling our emotions and in making choices where we don't need to take pills or need therapy - But we are not perfect. Life will always present changes and situations to surprise us and challenge us.
