when she's sitting on the bed naked

Please enlighten me. Was it just an excuse for us to see Christina naked, or did it actually happen in the book?

i read the book and i don't ever recall her sitting on her bed naked. so maybe..it was an excuse to see her naked? heh who knows, go get the book it's good. it's alot different than the movie, i think, it's just..different.

Hi, just saw the movie for the first time tonight. I was wondering the same thing.
Maybe it was supposed to be symbolic, like her feeling exposed and intruded on by her mom all the time. I remembered her mentioning that, that her mom was always butting in even when not needed. Perhaps it was the filmmakers way to show how she felt? Most parents would not intrude like that? Maybe? and maybe her not seeming to think anything of it, was representing her used to the intrusions?

i don't know
and maybe the movie also figured more people would rent or buy the movie with a naked ricci?

...the earth is doomed...

01) naked Christina = $$$

02) symbolic of her vulnerability

03) too depressed to give a hoot about putting clothes on

reply

hahaha to be fair, the book does seem to reference #3. there's a scene at one point where she is sent to a man in london (i guess for the change of air, cheer her up and whatnot) and she begins sobbing hysterically in the shower for what may have been hours, and the man comes home from work and finds her there, puts a towel around her and drops her on the bed. she just lays there, naket, nearly cataconic.
needless to say she's slightly more likeable in the book than the movie. and i still didn't like her in the book.

reply

well if it was an add on just to see Christina Nude its all good. her body looked sexy in the movie. Dont you all agree??

reply

She just sits on a bed naked? What about her butt? I like to see movie stars walk around naked. She has a nice body, ala Jessica Biel or Marisa Tomei.

I'm not into hard core; I just like 'stars' naked. I love Nicole Kidman in the nude, but not Kathy Bates.

reply

Maby it was a way of showing her as a vulnerable person. Something like your never more vulnerable than when you are naked. You can t hide anything.

reply

"""Maby""" !?!?!?

:P

LOL I started this thread like two years ago. I sound like such an idiot.

It was obviously an exploitation (though not "sexploitation" since there was no sex) scene. Elizabeth Wurtzel's book might be able to strike a chord with people who have similar clinical depression and other problems, but the character in the film was so repulsive that few other people would care about her. But who wouldn't like to see a nude Christina Ricci? I believe they had that scene within the first few minutes in the hope of persuading people to stay for the next hour and a half in the hope of seeing another. Sadly, all they see was Elizabeth tormenting herself and everyone else (including the viewers).

I saw this film for the first time only a week ago. The film was completed way back in 2001 and vidcaps of this scene has been floating in the Internet since that time, long before the film was finally released for TV in the US in 2005. It is reasonable to suggest that, except for this scene, many people probably would never have heard of or remembered this film.

I think they showed her boobs just so that for the rest of the movie we wouldn't have to wonder what they look like.

reply

I completely agree with the whole symbolism of it all. I thought someone along those lines. But also it was just nice to see her naked. She needs to be naked more often. Haha.

Ha, good call (by the way it didn't work =)

reply

All I could think when I saw that scene is there is no way in hell I would ever sit around naked with my mom around.

reply

It's a great scene.

reply

One of the best gratuitous nude scenes of all time.
