Question about Rafe

Lizzie describes him to her mom as a nice Jewish boy. Yet, in his home...they have stockings & a Christmas wreath hanging. What gives?
Anyone know, if the book touches on this discrepancy?

reply

I could be wrong but doesn't Rafe state on the phone that he isn't jewish when Elizabeth calls him during her family birthday party? She probably said it to her Mum so she would "approve" of him as she didn't seem very pleased with him not able to come to visit her, shes a very critical mother and Lizzie probably didn't want her to have a go at her.

reply

Yep, he told Lizzy he's not Jewish the first time she made that assumption.

reply

It could very well be an industry-joke: Biggs indeed looks Jewish and is often cast as a Jewish character, but is in fact of Italian descent.

Your "approve" theory is probably true.

reply

Is Wurzel Jewish? Possibly said that to get her mom's approval?

reply

Yes he reminded her again he wasn't Jewish. Not sure if Wurtzel was Jewish. I know Biggs is not in real life either.

reply

Yes, she was Jewish. She talks about it in the book, and you can see a menorah in her mother's apartment.
