Does anyone know the source for the reading the young guy did in the old guy's room.

I would imagine it was originally in French, but I'm not sure.

It's actually a German poem from Goethe

It is "Der Erlkönig " aka the Erlking. Goethe composed it as part of a opera entitled "Die Fischerin".
