No Fun

When the Sex Pistols performed their last live concert in San Francisco they only sang one song Iggy Pop's "No Fun". Does anybody else think that it was better than any real Sex Pistols song?

reply

I like the Pistols no fun.

reply

I've seen this film many times and only until the last time I saw it recently I thought they did only play one song (out of being pissed at McClaren)- when I saw it again, the announcer says, "once again, the Sex Pistols" before they go on to do the number, so I think they did do a whole concert, but just one number for the encore.

reply

It was the encore, the played most of the LP and some b-sides for the actual show (which was only about 45 minutes)

Their version is on a b-side of a single, but I dont remember which at the moment. It's not a great version

reply

yeah the song "belsen was a gas" that appears on the rock n roll swindle soundtyrack is taken from that concert

reply

they did a somewhat show there.. you can download the whole video of that last show off WinMX

You better understand I'm in love with myself Myself My beautiful self

reply

They did a bunch of songs. I've seen the video of the concert. I wish I still had it.

reply

No Fun's on the Albulm 'Raw' (which is basically Never Mind the B***** without a few of the classics). No Fun is over 6 minutes long (!!!) and very slow compared to their best ones.

reply

Yeah, I have a lot of the songs off the Target video for the concert downloaded onto my computer. Near the end of "Bodies" Steve Jones' guitar amp stops working and you can hear Sid's boingy bassplaying clearly, so while Jones is trying to fix it Rotten says "I'm not a body, I'm an abortion... what does that make you?"

You can also see Paul Cook's drumming flourish. The rest of the band is falling apart onstage and yet Paul's still tight and energetic as ever. Without that the whole thing would've been horrible, but it's saved by the tight drumming. Good work, Cookie.

reply

yeah i always thought that paul was severly over-looked but in actual fact he was the most talented of the band muscially. a great drummer, not nearly half as recognised as he should be! good job, mr.cook!

What's that? You just called me a bastard didn't you!

reply

no fun played by the sex pistols is way better than any other songs they did
and its really inferior to the original stooges one.

reply

Paul and Steve were pretty much the musical core of the band, even though John and Sid were the band's public face.

reply

Actually, Glen was probably the most important member of the band, musically speaking. Note that from the time he left to the time of the break-up, the Pistols only wrote two songs.

reply

No, I don't. I think "No Fun" is the one of their worst, it's obvious (to me) that Rotten was just trying to annoy the audience, droning "no fun no fun no fun no fun" over and over and over and...

Funny how the film gives the definite impression they only played that one song in 'Frisco, innit? I've seen the footage (it's on a torrent somewhere), and they do a whole set. It's not actually all that bad (compared to the previous show in Dallas, at least).

"One song" LMFAO go back to watching Scooby Doo sunshine.

Although I found out only recently that this was an Iggy Pop cover, I always thought that this was one of the most powerful SP's songs. The lyrics decry a feeling that touches many peoples' lives: "By myself...nobody loves me...all alone....no fun."
This is a bit more truthful than James Taylor's "How Sweet is is to be Loved By You." lol

reply

It's a Stooges song, not an Iggy Pop song. And don't say it's the same thing. It's not.
