Where was Pig's dad?

Anyone who read the play or knows things about the film, where is Pig's dad? And does anyone agree that his mother just didn't take the situation seriously? When the dean of the school is talking about expelling them, Pig's mom just sits there acting like she could care less. She laughed too, found the whole thing funny, about what they did to those pictures.

No idea where the dad was but I thought the same in regards to the mum not taking any of it seriously. And then when she told Pig where Runt was nearly right away, I don't think she was helping him at all. She could have at least waited a little while, then like Runt he might have started to see outside of the world they had created.
