'Be a man!!!' I HATE that phrase!

I'm surprised that phrase would still be allowed espcially in the court of law in 2011. It's very negative!

For one thing it implies that MEN should be forced to live up to these heroic standards, be the provider, take care of eveything and evenryone, etc...

And also what does it say about WOMEN? Women work, and provide, and are independent too.

I think the phrase SHOULD be "Be an ADULT!" b/c both men AND women can and SHOULD do all these things above that I mentioned, that JB means when he says "Be a man!"

But I AM surprised that is valid in the the court, what the hell does being a MAN have to do with anything legal or justice, aren't men and women under the same law? What if someone said "Be a WHITE PERSON!" That would be racist, so I don't see why "Be a man!" wouldn't be sexist. I think it's unreasonble for men and demeaning to women.

Judge Judy has NEVER said that as far as I know, she rules by the books! That's why she is my favorite judge.

Just because we lose today's battle doesn't mean we've lost tommorow's war.

Joey only says that to men. He doesn't say it to women. So what is your problem?

AGAIN.......... WHY are men under different standards than WOMEN in the COURT OF LAW!

What does one's GENDER or SEX have to do with it?

Aren't all people supposed to be EQUAL in the eyes of the law?

Why not say, "Be an ADULT!" or "Be a GROWN UP" instead.

As I pointed out, women are capable of taking responsibility the same as men are, so why is gender even pointed out?

Also as I mentioned, it'd be like saying, "Be a WHITE PERSON!" to white ppl, how is that relevant in court?

In short he shouldn't be saying, "Be a man!" to anyone. Under the law, how is a man supposed to "be" as opposed to how a woman is supposed to "be"?

How are "penis people" supposed to be as opposed to how "vagina people" are supposed to be? It's stupid!

Create a society in which you would like to live, not knowing what you're going to come into it as.

I guess it has to do with promoting manhood. Yes, maybe it sounds too patriarchial, but remember the time Joey grew up in. Maybe he should say, "Be a mature adult?"

His show is being re-ran in the mornings on Bounce.TV and, yeah, it's strange because he did an entire week of shows called 'man up.' It lets women off the hook because I don't think he ever says that to them. However, It may be different in the black community but I'm white and there are women in my family that really should do that themselves. They do anything to find a man to support them so they don't have to work, and when he leaves them they either move in with a family member, immediately find another man, or claim they have a mental or physical illness to get SSI benefits and subsidized housing. Men come and go, but their government check is steady.

I have a cousin who was never able to keep a job or a man. At 28 she ended up moving in with a guy she was working with, became pregnant almost immediately and quit her job, now 3 years later they are separated (they were never married. I think so she could get state benefits as a single mother) and she lives with her mother in another state, unemployed, and with her 2 year old daughter.
