Why does everyone like this show?

You see those jerks wearing the shirts and on the internet like everywhere, it was only on tv for 2 years and was a weird show. Why such a large fan base?

Please come back when you've learned how to form logical sentences. This is still a non-question because if you're not already in on what makes the show great, you'll never know.

Useless question is useless.

"Doc, Hammer me."

Just saying I like the show, if you don't that's fine, it got cancelled anyway.

I never understood the love for this show either. It was boring and stupid. I always though cartoons like "Hey Arnold!" and "Doug" were better and should have a much larger fanbase.

I hear everybody that you know is more relevant than everybody that I know.

reply

Wow, so some *beep* lame, boring, politically correct kids shows were better than this? I think you might be a moron. Or more likely just a troll. Well, I guess those two are actually mutually inclusive now that I think about it.

reply

Come on now, Doug and Hey Arnold were both good cartoons. They werent as in your face with the craziness as IZ, but they had tons of subtle adult humor. And I'd have to say they have at least the same size fan base if not bigger than invader zim. Especially with 20 year olds.

Having said that Invader Zim is a great cartoon, definitely one of the best of the 2000s. One of the few that can actually compete with 90s cartoons

This show for me was always about creating a space of complete ignorance and looming darkness. There's irony in how well the script is written, emmy-worthy storyboarding, the effects and character voices were all top notch, but despite all of that they talk about hamsters named "pee pee" and pit both sides in such lunatic situations that there's zero hope for either one to succeed. There's nothing "dookie" about this show, even though they talk about it all of the time.

The amount of care that went into this work is noticeable and appreciated (by most). It relies on stupid humor, but it somehow manages to still be engaging. Some other shows on Nickelodeon think being random and stupid is funny when it's really cringe-worthy; I would venture to guess because it's immature and slightly out of place in a reality-based program. But one of the main themes of Zim is stupidity!, so that's why I like it.

So to sum up, it's dark, silly and has some mature subject matter that is always masked by the idiocy of the characters. The layers run deep, though. It's deeply stupid.

@fordtheanker I like Invader ZIM but trust me shows from the 90's are alot better. Quit bitching fanboy.

"shows from the 90's are alot better."

Typical nostalgia-based bullsh*t. There are shows from the 90's that were great. And from the 80's. AND from the 2000's. Get over it.

Just because a show isn't filled with vulgar or irreverent humor or lots of *beep* behavior doesn't mean it's "politically correct."

Doug was anti-authoritarian. The adults were often portrayed as incompetent or myopic. Take the episode "Doug's Cartoon," where Doug and his peers stand up to the school administration (namely Mr. Bone) over free speech after he tries to censor a cartoon Doug drew for the school newspaper making fun of the cafeteria food.

Doug's parents are minor characters, and when they do make appearances they're often portrayed as clueless. In "Doug's Big Brawl," Doug's dad tries to give him the old, "violence is never the answer" routine, and Doug basically rolls his eyes and goes, "yeah, sure Dad." Because he and the show's writers were aware that things aren't that simple, and weren't that simple in this story.

Jinkins instructed his writers to write morals in the context of being realistic.

A politically correct show would tell kids to always obey and respect their elders, not to portray kids rightfully challenging authority.

Moreover, they made the characters a bunch of weird colors deliberately to avoid having to deal with racial crap. This way, none of the characters had an actual race and they wouldn't get all kinds of whining from PC groups about how they're portraying a given race.

Why do trolls make topics like this? You see those jerks making troll topics like this on the internet, like every board has one. Why is there such a large amount of idiots in the world who have to come online, and take their own worthless personal time to make hate topics like this just because they don't "get" a show or movie? What a bunch of losers.

reply

i remember when ren and stimpy came out my ma hated it when i watched it. thought it was gross and too crazy for a 5 year old boy. same went for invader zim. it's one of those shows that got on the air that was off the wall and entertaining. i'm not saying that every zim fan is weird or what not. but i've seen some over board fans. never the less it was a great show that had the fun campy ness of 50s sci fi movies with the zanny ness of ren and stimpy. and thats entertainment. instead of people complaining about his trolling why not answer the damn question and be above him?

I think a lot of zim fans still hold onto this because we got cheated. We also loved hey Arnold and Doug but they ran their course and we were satisfied with what we were given. But zim, got ripped from our hands before it's time. Much like the fanbase family guy generated after only one season. It was too good to be cancelled so suddenly without a chance so fans rushed out to grab a piece of the DVD to hold onto what was possibly one of the greatest cartoons ever made after simpsons and south park- thankfully the DVDs it sold was enough to convince the network to give it that second season.

Sadly invader zim never had a DVD released from my knowledge... Memorabilia is all that's left now. Or the occasional repeats played on nickelodeon... *sigh* Otherwise dies it matter if you can't see what everybody finds appealing about this show? Does everybody have to like what you like? I could never see why people liked pineapple on a pizza. It's a fruit! It has no place on a pizza.
