The lesbian overtones in this cartoon are FIERCE

Not that I have a problem with lesbians or gays but did anyone else notice that the lesbian overtones are a bit much, particularly with courtney, ginger and miranda. Its not just popularity, at times Miranda and Ginger fight over Courtney as if they both want to be Courtneys girlfriend. Also her friend with the glasses is probably in the closet.

You're making a big deal out of nothing.

Erm, I have a feeling I shouldn't care...

reply

hahahahahahahahh!!!!!!!!!!!!!
XDDDDD
courtney had a t-shirt with a picture of ginger 0.0
XD
hahah

reply

Macie... the girl with the glasses... has actually gotten crushes on MALES y'know. She's not a lesbian.

reply

I watched the episode "Gym Class Confidental" last night, and I am pretty sure that there was an instance in which Courtney implied to Ginger that Macy didn't want to watch a video on female puberty because she was a Lesbian...Courtney was only implying it, but it still adds to the whole Lesbian Overtone thing..

reply

Wow... just wow...

I saw that episode also. (I watch every morning.) The kids are twelve and thirteen years old! They don't think anything about lesbians!

Courtney (and Miranda for that matter) was "implying" that Macy was weak and would never grow up... that she wanted to stay in her safe little bubble where she couldn't face 'adult issues' like puberty and pregnancy.

reply

I feel moronic now, but thanks!

reply

Wow I saw this and just had to read this thread! I wonder if there are any shows on nick where someone hasn't accussed it of having a secret homosexual agenda! Don't think there are lesbian overtones but Courtney, I dunno lol.

reply

I don't think there are for girls, however Carl's "friend" with the Pet monkey definitely has some homosexual tones to his character, from the way he talks to his bodily movements

reply

Oh yeah Brandon, if that kid is straight I'd be shocked! Maybe he's not into people at all, maybe he just likes to spank his monkey ;).

He has the lisp and everything!

reply

Where do you watch it?! Does it still come on nickolodeon because I haven't seen it in forever and I really miss it. I was thinking about it last night and I really want to order all the seasons.

reply

Several episodes used to be on veoh.com

But now they're gone and I don't know where to find episodes.

Season One is avalable on iTunes for $20-and there is Reruns everyday on Nicktoons Network at 3 Am, and on Saturdays on Nickelodeon at 5 am

...you don't know any gay people, do you? Because, like heterosexual people, that's the same age a lot of people become aware of their sexual orientation and the fact that they're not like their peers. So, yeah, some twelve and thirteen year olds definitely think something about lesbians.

reply

Is this addressed to me? I do know some gay people. I, myself, am half gay. Some people become aware of their sexual orientation at a young age. Others, it takes longer. Most people agree people shouldn't establish they have a certain sexual orientation until their late teens.

reply

Who are these "most people" that "agree" one shouldn't establish an orientation until their late teens? First off, one doesn't "establish" an orientation, anyway, it's chosen for them at birth or in the womb. Second, I've never heard of any such report that states children shouldn't be encouraged to express their true selves until adulthood. Saying that teens should wait is tantamount to using that ancient (and outdated) adage that it's "just a phase." It's very hurtful to the cause.

reply

Exactly how are you "half gay"? You're either gay or you're straight. Unless you're bisexual and mistakenly claim that you're gay when attracted to a person of the same sex, but straight when you're attracted to a person of the opposite sex. In that case, you're extremely misinformed, and I find it insulting because I am a bisexual woman, I have known that since I was in high school, and I'm attracted to both sexes, always. Yes I have a preference for men, that doesn't make me not bisexual, or "half gay".

Not to mention there are a bunch of different terms that define the sexuality of a person. Heterosexuality, Homosexuality, Bisexuality, Pansexual, Intersex, Asexual, Transexual...but I have never heard of someone being "half gay". So what, do you get the choice of choosing when to be gay? Do you wake up in the morning and decide that for that day you'll be straight or gay? Because that's not how it works.

If it's been fifteen years or more, it's no longer a spoiler.

Omg yes. But this could just be because I'm a lesbian. :/ haha.

reply

lol it's like sailor moon all over again...

I just think it's that girls tend to get alot closer and alot clingier w/ their friends than guys and also that it's girls that are really desperate to be popular or be friends with the popular girl. So sometimes typical girl behavior can seam lesbian-ish I should know I go to an all girls school lol

Kate Nash is extraordinarily overrated

reply

sailor moon is different. two of the girls were, in fact, lesbians in the originals. I didn't really see anything with macy, and i *def* didn't see anyting with courtney, ginger, and miranda lol.

reply

I don't think any of the girls on this show is supposed to be a lesbian. Miranda simply wanted to be Courtney's best friend, because Courtney was the most popular girl at school. Because yes, that was probably enough for Miranda to grow that hatred towards Ginger. She saw her as a threat to her position as the most popular girl's best friend. I don't know how much Miranda even cared about Courtney as a person. She probably could have jilted her just like that, if another girl had become more popular.

Yes, it's true! IMDB has reached Sweden!

reply

I agree with you.

It's more about adolescent girl culture. The intense feelings that girls feel for each other during formative years are important and they are often blown out of proportion because they are so young and "nothing will ever be as important as what's going on right here, right now, in these school halls"

The competition and friendships are fierce. I thought it accurately showed what I witnessed in high school.

What about the episode Little Seal Girl where Courtney said that Ginger, Dodie and Macie had a BLT?

Mrs Voorhees is watching you!

reply

What's a BLT? I don't think it had any lesbian undertones. I think that Courtney just wanted a REAL friend (Ginger) Ginger wanted to be popular but then stopped and saw Courtney as she is. Miranda was manipulative witch who wanted Courtney to herself. Macy was acting her age and not really maturing as fast and Dodie was a wannabe

reply

It was BFT (Best Friend Tradation) but Courtney called it a BLT. For some reason I thought Courtney was implying that Ginger was a lesbian.

Mrs Voorhees is watching you!

reply

I wasn't talking about being attracted to the same sex, but consciously thinking about lesbians.
