Tommy's tagging/graffiti

In the special features of the DVD Marc Singer talks about how he used the talents/skills of the people in the tunnel to help make the movie, (for example getting electricity, making the cart to film smoothly on the tracks...) Why didn't Tommy design the "graffiti" lettering used for the title, names, credits, etc...?

Tommy wasn't a graffiti writer.. the kid that gets out of jail and stays with him, and appears in certain shots of the film, is a fairly well known writer from NYC named Ment - those are all hist tags in Tommys "house"
